Another Nightmare

As I drove into Kris's property, I heaved a sigh of relief. A sense of excitement and relaxation overwhelmed me. It has been a while since I took a break away from my Alpha duties and this occasion was giving me a chance to not only relax but to spend time with my long-time friend. From afar, I could see Kris and his entourage, waiting outside and getting ready to receive me. A smile escaped my lips. I drove to the mansion and stopped right in front of it. As I got down if the car, a valet walked up to me and I handed him the car keys. “Kaidon! It's been ages, brother,” Kris said with excitement in his voice as I walked up to him. He opened his arms for a warm hug and I returned the hug. “It’s great to see you again, brother. How long has it been?” I replied. “About 4 to 5 years, I guess,” he answered. “Oh yeah, around the time we both got reinstated as Alphas. I guess the responsibility was just too much in our shoulders,” I said. “Of course, please come in. Welcome to my humble abode,” he said as we turned to and began to walk into the building. “Wow, your place looks amazing,” I complimented as I looked around the house. “Thank you bro. I had some renovations done since you last visited. Come on, we have some catching up to do,” he finally said. As we walked further into the mansion, the sound of laughter and music grew louder. I was surprised to find a party in full fledge. “I see you already started the celebration without me,” I said pretending to sound a bit upset. Kris laughed, his eyes sparkling with amusement. “Well forgive me, brother. But you know me, Kaidon, I'm always ready to party. I don't ever miss an opportunity to have a good time,” he said I chuckled at his response. “Well, I guess I have to forgive you this time,” I said. “If you're not too exhausted, I suggest we go grab a glass or two. I have a fine selection of wine and spirits I'm sure you'd love” he suggested. A glass of wine was what I needed at the moment to unwind. “Sure,” I replied. Kris led the way and we entered into the ballroom where guests were dancing, drinking and mingling. Kris and I made our way to the bar and Kris spoke to the bartender. I didn't hear what was said as I was focused on the music playing in the background. “Here you go,” Kris said, turning my attention back to him. He had two glasses and he gave me one. Until it from him and thanked him. After a quick sip, I drew the glass away from my lips. “This is good,” I said. “I told you,” he replied. I took another sip of the wine, allowing the delicious taste pass down my throat smoothly. “So tell me brother, what's been going on with you? I'm sure it's been going really well for you,” He said. “I won't say the same,” I said, my expression dampening. “What's the matter bro? You look like you just lost a battle,” Kris said, turning to face me. I saw the concern etched in his face and I could tell that he was worried. “I had a bit of a situation with a witch recently,” I said. Kris's eyes widened in surprise. “What kind of situation? I know how much you hate witches so what encounter could you have had with a witch to make you this troubled,” he said. I went on to tell him about Ravenna's execution and the curse she laid on me. I also told him about the various nightmares I had been receiving. “Wow bro, that's really terrible. What are you going to do about it?” He asked me. “I don't know, man. I've tried searching for my mate so I could kill her before she gets to me first but I haven't been able to find her,” I replied, sipping from my glass again. “Well, you have to be very careful then,” he said, patting my back. I nodded in agreement. We spoke about other things before tiredness finally overwhelmed me. Kris offered to escort me to my room and after freshening up, I surprisingly managed to get some restful sleep. For the first time in months, I didn't have any nightmares. It was the best sleep I've had in a while. I woke up feeling rejuvenated. The following day, I decided to explore the Blue Moon Pack, hoping to gather some valuable insights I could take back to my own pack. While walking through town, my eye caught a young woman with long, dark hair. She wasn't the first person I saw on my walk but she somehow caught my attention. I watched from a distance as she chopped some wood, for what was likely going to be used to make dinner later. Just as I was wondering why a woman was doing such a tedious job, an older woman walked out of the house with a scowl in her face. “What the hell do you think you're doing, Lila? You're not even doing it well. You're just useless, like your parents,” the older woman yelled. “I'm doing my best, aunty. The work is a bit too much for me but I'm doing the best I can,” the Lila girl said. “Now you're talking back at me. You're going to get punished for this,” the older woman, now furious, said. Before I could say jack, she raised her hand and smacked Lila across the face. I wanted to rush out and stop her from hitting Lila again but I knew this wasn't any of my business. “Next time, you don't get to talk back at me,” the woman said before storming back into the house.
