Blake vanished as if she had evaporated, never appearing before us again. Her absence was complete and disconcerting. She disappeared like the smoke from a dream at dawn. She never showed up again—not a call, not a shadow, not a goodbye.
During those months, her mother came to see me a couple of times, desperate, trying to get me to help find her. But there were no clues, no signs, nothing. It was as if she had never existed. And the truth is, night after night, I found myself wishing she had never returned and would never come back. Yes, maybe it was a selfish thought, but without her in my life, I realized that things were better.
