"Brett, you can just call me Brett," Brett said gently.
Elizabeth couldn't quite describe what she was feeling at that moment.
Was her heart racing?
It was. And it was racing fast.
But alongside that, there was another, more complicated feeling she couldn't unravel.
She didn't want to try.
She quietly met Brett's gaze, and for a long while, neither of them said a word.
Eventually, Brett was the one to look away. He shifted the topic.
"I've set something up to keep my mother occupied for a while. I'll need to count on you these next few days."
Elizabeth nervously fidgeted with her hands and gave a small nod.
On the other side of town, Andy was fuming after Elizabeth hung up on him.
