Chapter 2

Kade Just one single little piece of paper was all it took to cause a massive headache to form inside my head. The reason being was because this piece of paper was an invitation. An invitation for a gathering of all the alphas in this country. Of course their mates are expected to come as well, as a way of showing that the bloodline is being secured. This was the annual gathering where all the alphas can discuss with the elders any issues that may be surfacing. The problem about this gathering is that you have a room full of dominant alphas who are all wanting to puff out their chest, to show that they are no weak link in the werewolf community.  Imaging the scene and possible bitching coming from all the alphas was not something I looked forward to. I tend to stay quiet and wait for the gathering to finish. The idea of sharing with a group of strangers any of my issues is not my preferred method. Being the private man I am, I like to handle my own issues on my own.  A sudden loud noise coming from down the hall just made my headache turn into a migraine. I knew this noise was coming from my sister and her friends. They are the only ones in this house that can never stay quiet. Suddenly my office door opens causing the noise to be louder for a few seconds. Rubbing my temples, I looked up to see who it was that dared to enter my office without knocking.  “The girls and I want to go to the annual gathering with you this year.” Of course the one who had the nerve to burst into my office was my own younger sister Ashley. Hearing her request added another hit to the already formed migraine.  “No.”  “Why not? I’m not a kid anymore. Besides, I'm your sister and all the other alphas bring their family.” Pushing the invitation out of my line of sight, I looked up and gave my sister a hard look. She really can be your typical annoying sister. “Just you standing here throwing a tantrum shows you're still immature. Besides, you never showed any interest in going any past years.” “I’m 18 now; basically an adult now. Adults are involved in all these boring adult meetings.” “These boring meetings, as you call them, can determine any possible threats that can be a matter of life or death for the pack.” I stood up and walked around my desk without breaking eye contact with my sister. “I am the alpha of this pack, a title that you do not carry. Your concerns can continue to consist of your little friends and whatever that annoying sound is coming from your room.” “Silver Star is THE most amazing band in the world. For a wolf, your hearing is terrible if you can’t appreciate their music. Keira’s voice is a true work of art. A real life muse for the music world.” “Well her music makes my ears bleed and gives me a headache, so turn that s**t down.” I turned back around to return to my desk, leaving my sister looking at me like I'm some monster. Maybe I am. “Furthermore, the only person accompanying me to the gathering is Brittany, as she is my chosen mate and future luna of this pack.” This seemed to bring her back to our primary topic. “You don’t know that for sure, for all you know you may meet your mate soon.” She looked at me with a serious expression.  “I have already decided that she will be my mate and luna. I do not need to explain myself further.” I then got to work on all the paperwork letting her know that this discussion was over. Ashley left my office with a huff and slamming of the door, which really did not help my migraine. I’m sure she did that on purpose like the child she is. With her finally gone I can focus on all this paperwork littering my desk. Casting one last glance at the invitation, I get back to work. According to the invitation the gathering is in 10 days; that’s 9 days for me to wrap up all these documents and pack for the trip. Grabbing my phone, I sent Brittany a message telling her to be ready to leave in 9 days for the gathering.  Brittany is the daughter of an original pureblood alpha whose pack has pledged loyalty to me. Her demeanor is that of a refined lady and she follows what she is told without question. I loathe the possibility of having a mate that questions every decision I make regardless of what it is. So when the alpha of the Half Moon pack presented his 18 year old daughter to me 3 years ago, I decided to make her my chosen mate. A decision that I still stand by today regardless of us not being fated. Those ludacris fairytale stories of some nonexistence being tying us to our perfect match was the reason why many great alpha bloodlines have ended. Being from one of the original bloodlines, I refuse to let some fairytale mate end my family’s bloodline. ******* Ashley What unlucky star was I born under to end up with such a jerk of an older brother? Not only does he refuse to let me go to the gathering with him, but he also insulted Silver Star! Their music is the only thing that brings me comfort in this place, along with my 2 best friends. Kade runs this place like he is some dictator with a stick up his butt. His way of leading has sucked the soul out of this whole pack. The pack members avoid glancing at him due to fear of being punished for “challenging” him. The one person that is supposed to help bring life to the pack is the Luna. Unfortunately Brittany isn’t much better than my brother. I’m not saying she is mean, she actually really nice, but she just doesn't have enough of a backbone to go against my brother’s orders. Just goes to show that my brother’s orders are law.  The perk of not being an alpha is that I don’t have to follow the Chosen mate law, that only pertains to alphas. I wonder when I’ll finally get to meet him. Maybe somewhere isolated or somewhere romantic where it’s just the two of us. Just thinking about it brought a smile to my face. The girls look up when I walk back into my room with eager expressions. I’m guessing they thought my smile meant that my brother said yes because they jumped off my bed and squealed. “No it’s not what you think. Kade said no.” I said, losing my smile. They looked at me dumbfounded. “Then why the hell did you have that goofy grin on your face?” Claire pointed at me. “I was thinking about when and where I could finally meet my mate.” I sat down on my bed with a sigh. “Girl we all want to meet our mate. That way we can get the hell out of this depressing place,” Cassandra huffed. Claire and Cassandra are my two best friends, who are twins. They each have blond hair, but Claire has brown eyes while Cassandra has hazel eyes. All three of us are 18 and have high ranking family ties. While my brother is the alpha, their cousin Brett is the beta. What really sealed the deal on our friendship was our same love for the group Silver Star. We have been listening to their music since we were 11, when the band first started out. The music that they produced then and now is something that everyone can connect with. People of all types come together when they hear Silver Star; all the videos and comments testify to all the praise. Speaking of people’s reaction. “The worst part about that conversation is that Kade insulted Silver Star by calling their music annoying!” If possible, I would say that the twin’s jaw would be all the way on the floor. “Is he deaf?!”  “How could anyone call Silver Star’s music annoying?” “That’s what I told him! Like how could you call Brayden’s guitar play and Keira’s voice annoying.” I turned and looked at the huge poster of Silver Star hanging on my wall by my bed.  “My heart beats louder every time I hear Blaze playing the drums. It’s like my heart beats in time with his drums.”  Claire sighs dreamily looking at the poster. “Diesel is definitely my bias.” Cassandra smiled at the poster laying down on my bed. Our far away thoughts were brought back at the sound of someone knocking on my door. “Come in.” Brittany slowly opened the door looking shy. She was dressed in her usual “proper” attire consisting of a loose pink blouse with a matching knee length skirt. Her dark blond hair was styled into a clean bun and some barely there eyeshadow around her green eyes.  Girlfriend needed a serious makeover; I can’t believe my brother picked her as his Chosen. Everyone was surprised when he announced her as his Chosen. Even though she is a daughter of one of the original pureblooded alphas like my family, she does not compliment Kade very well. “What is it Brittany?” I looked at her impatiently.  “I just wanted to tell you that I will try and talk to your brother about letting you and the girls join us to the gathering.” She fiddled with her fingers and refrained from making direct eye contact.  With a shake of my head I just waved off her weak statement. “No offense Brittany, but we all know you won’t be able to change Kade’s mind after he made a decision.” All I got back was a single small head nod and my door closing behind her. Cassandra looked over at me with a frown. “You could have been a little nicer to her, she was just offering to speak to him for us.” A loud sigh escaped from my lips as I laid down on the bed. “I wasn’t trying to be mean, it's just that I know she won’t be able to change Kade’s mind. My brother is the definition of a stubborn alpha male.” “Still could have said it nicer though,” Claire chimed in. Grabbing one of the bed pillows and placing it over my face, I let out a long groan. I hate it when they gang up on me like this. Before anyone got the chance to say anything, the voice of the music reporter on the TV channel cut in. “Last night was the final concert of the year for the group Silver Star, and it’s true to say that they did it in style. Fans were treated to a whole new array of special effects and visuals. A few lucky fans even had the pleasure of meeting and partying with the group at a private afterparty.” Cassandra groaned in jealousy. “Why can’t we go to one of their concerts and have a private afterparty with them.” “That’s because we have a warden of an alpha and beta to deprive us of any fun or freedom,” Claire mumbled. “Why don’t we? We’re all 18 now, who needs their permission to go out anymore,” I told them as I walked towards my closet. “I say we go and have a nice long girls day out.” The twins each had a big smirk on their face that I returned. This was going to be a fun day.
