KAEL
They were here for her. I just know it. The way they suddenly lunged in her direction once they sensed her, it was clear someone knew something. They were after her. And this meant that I had to do something fast. I needed to find who the fucker was.
I had just taken Kathryn to the hospital to get checked. As much as I took her side, I was for Raven one hundred. Whatever got Raven to claw Kathryn's face out, I knew she deserved it. But I had to pick a side.
And it wasn’t Raven's. There was too much at stake.
A little heartbreak would heal just fine, her life was more important.
The doctor came in a rush, startled by the sight of blood. I couldn't help the puff in my chest knowing that my mate had done this much damage to her. It was messed up. But for a b***h like Kathryn, she had it coming.
“This is deep, did you fight off a rogue?” He asked, wiping off the blood and disinfecting the wound that was healing rather too slowly for an Alpha's daughter.
This is a first. I knew Raven was gifted, and it was my job to take note of what her abilities were and what they could do. It was worthy of note to say that the injuries she inflicted caused a wolf's healing ability to reduce by at least ninety percent.
“You could say that, she has no manners at all…” She hissed both at the person she was talking about and of course the antiseptic being pressed on her skin. If I knew anything, she was plotting at the moment. Her face was her brand. She was proud of it.
“This is going to leave a scar I'm afraid…” the doctor sighed casually. I leaned against the wall, waiting for him to finish up so that I could address her. I was met with a screaming that made me shut my eyes for a moment. Not that it did anything to stop the sound from shattering my drums.
“What do you mean it'll leave a scar?” She held him by the collar. “You just said it would heal just fine. I can't have a scar on my face. My wedding is coming! Kael, do something…” She turned to me, pushing the doctor off sending him crashing into the nurse who had been holding the tray in her hands.
I walked over and helped them up. “Are you done with the wound?” I asked the doctor and he turned to Kathryn and then back at me.
“No better, we still need to bandage her up…”
I motioned for him to. Kathryn's eyes were red with anger.
“I can't walk around with a bandage on my face. What will people say?”
Who the f**k cares? I know I don't.
“You can either sit still for him to do his job. Or let people see you carrying a nasty face around. I don't care either way.” That seemed to shut her up. She didn't move a muscle until he was done and she was patched up.
I waited until we were completely alone before pulling her to her feet. “Ouch, what are you doing? That hurts…” the pitch in her voice changed. She wasn't the hysterical clown she had been a second ago. Rather she sounded -tried to- seductive.
“Don't think because I brought you here that I'm on your side. I told you to stay the f**k away from Raven.”
She smiled. Like a full blown smile. Suddenly she wasn't in pain anymore. “I'm your fiancé, Kael. She needs to remember that. You can't keep indulging her fantasies…” If only you knew you were the one with a fantasy. “Her little crush on you is so obvious and the way you protect her makes me think you like her too.”
“That doesn't give you the right to turn her into a f*****g maid. She's no servant in this pack!” I hissed, trying my hardest to remain calm. Odin was a thread away from snapping.
She grinned as though I had made a joke she was interested in. She placed her hands on my chest, her nails grazing over the buttons. Then she moved to my abs, rubbing lightly. I gripped both hands and yanked away from me. If Raven had been the one to do that, I would have lost my mind. But this was Kathryn. She wasn't Raven. Her touch would never cause my heart to flutter like the way Raven's lips would.
“You're pushing it, Kathryn. Being your fiancée doesn't mean you and I are ever going there. Don't f*****g test me!” My hand found her neck, squeezing so that she knew I meant every word. Tears formed in her eyes. I blacked out. There was a part of me that wanted her dead for making me hurt Raven.
Do it.
“Do it and be done with it. Kill her!” Odin encouraged and I squeezed. Her eyes reddened, her face paled and it began to bleed again. Only after seeing the blood did I snap out of it, releasing her as she fell on her knees.
“Touch Raven again and this f*****g engagement is off…” I grounded, before spinning on my heels and leaving the room.
As I made my way out, I noticed Raven's hospital room light on. I suddenly remembered that she was still in her hospital clothes when we found her standing over Kathryn.
I hope she's okay. “If I loose my mate, I will kill you…” Odin hissed bitterly at me. It would mean he would have to die too but sensing his disdain for what I did to her, I was certain he would do it.
I took a deep breath before pushing the door open and walking in. I was hoping to be hit by her scent. The one that calmed every raging nerve in my body. But instead I caught his scent on her. And her, she looked back at me with so much hate.
My heart squeezed in my chest. She didn't have a problem having her scent all over her. It was me she hated.
“Why are you here?” Came her words dripping with venom.
I couldn't answer. What was I going to say? That I was sorry I let her get humiliated even when she was telling the truth? I lowered my gaze, then left the room in shame.
I headed back to the house, marching straight for my room, the only place I could be without feeling like a total failure. I was stopped on the way, for some reason my brother was waiting for me.
“I saw you go to her room…” he began and I stiffened. “Why were you there, Kael? Why did you tell her you didn't want him touching her?” f**k, he heard. What do I say? He can't find out.
“Because he's the f*****g wrong choice for her and you know this. Don't tell you believe that stupid lie about his ex mate dying in a f*****g attack no one heard about…” I squinted my eyes at him. Left to Rowan, he was the type to know this type of s**t and turn a blind eye to. I wasn't. And especially not when it f*****g came to Raven.
He looked around, making sure it was just the two of us around before he spoke. “Who the f**k cares how his mate died, brother? What you need to worry your little brain about is this alliance.” And with that said, he walked off, bumping his shoulder against mine.
Dinner time came by and I was called downstairs. Kathryn was nowhere to be found. Soren however was. He was seated where Raven was supposed to be. His smile was back on his face. And as soon as I walked into the room, he got on his feet grabbing two glasses of wine.
The f**k is he up to now?
I wondered.
“A friendly toast. I'm sorry for the way I behaved earlier today, I was on edge and should have known my sister was a drama queen. I also understand your need to protect Raven and I respect that…” he sounded sincere. I reached for the glass, taking it from him. The room was quiet. Rowan was silently chewing his food looking at us. Abigail had her arms folded around her chest.
Why does this feel like a trap?
