Samuel has never once gotten angry with me.
He always knows exactly how to read my moods and how to handle my feelings carefully.
He never contradicts me in front of others.
Even when I am being completely unreasonable, he will only talk things through with me patiently when we are alone.
"There was no need to be that blunt. You made things really awkward for her." Samuel takes my hand.
"You were never like this before."
He turns his head to look at me. "What?"
I lift my chin to meet his gaze. "Before, you were the one who would say things that straight."
As a top graduate from medical school, there is no way he missed what that message really meant.
He would never have let something like this slide before.
But today, he did exactly that.
And worse, he is acting like I am the one at fault.
A flicker of confusion crosses his face.
Plenty of people have had crushes on Samuel ever since high school.
But he never once gave any of them a second look.
He always sees exactly what people are up to, and he never lets anyone step out of line.
Samuel smiles softly, brushing loose strands of hair back from my forehead.
"This is my fault. I am sorry I put you in this position." He leans down, and his breath brushes my cheek.
"She is just someone from school. She does not matter at all." He presses his cheek towards mine, nuzzling gently against my hair.
His voice is steady and sure as he speaks, "There is no one in Samuel Dean's heart but you, Sandra Finn."
