His Surprise Daughter

Ultimatum

For the rest of the day I decide to keep Leilani inside. We play dolls and we color in her coloring book. When it’s time for her nap I read her a book and give her milk. After she falls asleep I go to the front room and start cleaning up. As I was cleaning up I hear a knock at the door.

Because of everything that’s going on I grab my step stool to look out the door hole to see who it is. My heart stops when I see that it’s Axel. I move my step stool out of the way and open the door just slightly.

“ Isabelle open the door.”

“ Uh how did you find me?”

“ I will tell you if you would just open the door and let me in.” I don’t want him here while Leilani is here. But she is sleeping and I don’t think he is going to stay to long. I open the door and Axel walks in.

He follows me into the living room. I sit in the chair while he sits on the side of me on the couch.

“ How did you find me?”

“ It’s amazing what a private investigator can find out. He told me where you live, your birthday, how old you are, and that you have a two year old daughter with blue eyes.”

“ Why do you care Axel. None of this concerns you.”

“ See Isabelle that’s were your wrong. If that little girl of yours is my daughter then everything will change.I came here to take you and her to the doctors so we can do a DNA test.”

“ I have no problem with her getting a DNA test but she is sleeping right now and I don’t want to wake her up.”

“ You don’t have a choice.”

“ I am her mother and I say no.”

“ It’s just for this one day. Nothing will happen if you wake her up early from her nap.”

“ How do you know. You don’t even know her.”

“ Well whose fault is that.”

“ Don’t you dare. I had no idea who you were when I found out I was pregnant. All I knew was your first name and what you look like. The only reason I found out who you were was because of a stupid magazine cover.”

“Just go get her. I’m not going to stop until you wake her up.”

I walk to Leilani’s room with Axel following me. When I step into her room I notice how peaceful she is sleeping and I really don’t want to wake her up. When I turn to tell Axel no I see him staring at Leilani. I turn my attention back to Leilani and wake her up.

“ Hey princess it’s time to get up.” I say as I lightly rub her back. Leilani sits up in her bed and lifts her arms. I immediately pick her up and then I walk to her closet. I pick out her white tennis shoes and her yellow flats. Even though I pick them out I always give Leilani two options to choose from.

I sit Leilani back on her bed and show her each pair. She points to the yellow flats.

“ Mommy potty.” I potty trained her as soon as possible. I pick her up and take her to the bathroom. When we’re done I wash her hands and she runs out of the bathroom like a little speed demon.

“ Axel we’re ready.” He looks at me with a look I can’t decipher. He doesn’t say anything all he does is nod his head.

“ Um I guess we will follow you.” I say as I walk across the parking lot with Leilani on my hip.

“ We can just ride together.”

“ No we can’t you don’t have a car seat and I don’t feel like moving mine.”

“ I’ll move it. I just think it’s best if you ride with me.”

“Fine.” Axel moves Leilani’s car seat to his car and I tell him how to install it. I then put Aria in it and strap her in.

When we get there Axel gives his name to the receptionist and we wait to get called back. A few minutes later a nurse comes out and calls Axel’s name.

When we get into the room the doctor is already waiting for us.

“ Hi everyone my name is Dr.Brown I will be doing the DNA test for you today. After I take the sample I will hand it over to the lab.”

After he takes samples from both Axel and Leilani . I ask “ how long for the results?”

“ It should only take forty five minutes to get the results. As we understand this needs to be rushed.” Dr. Brown leaves the room which leaves Axel, Leilani and me in a room by ourselves.”

“ Mommy Mickey.” I get out my phone and hand it to Leilani.

“ Can I hold her?” I look up to Axel studying Leilani. He then looks at me for permission and I sit her in his lap and hand him my phone.

Leilani is not paying anyone any attention. As long as Mickey Mouse is on Leilani will be focused on that and nothing else.

An hour later Dr. brown enters the room with the results. “ Mr. Chambers according to the results you are Leilani’s biological dad.”

Axel gets up with Leilani in his hands and goes to shake Dr. Brown’s hand. We leave the doctors office in silence. As we are driving back I notice that nothing looks familiar.

“ Axel where are we going?”

“ I’m taking y’all back to my house. We have a lot to talk about Isabelle.”

“ I know that but not with Leilani present. Let me make a call.”

“ I have someone at my house that can watch her while we talk. And before you say anything it’s my older sister. She and her family live with me. So while we are talking Leilani can go and play with my niece whose a year older than Leilani.”

“ Okay.” I’ve never let anyone but Paige and her mom watch Leilani unsupervised so I’m a little nervous.

After we arrive at Axel’s house I go to pick Leilani up from her car seat but Axel says he’s got her. I don’t oppose and we walk into his house or should I say castle.

When we walk into his house there is a women standing there in the foyer“ Lydia can you go get my sister please.”

She then walks away and I follow Axel into the living room. Once in the living room we sit on the couch side by side.

“Can I tell her?” Axel asks

“ It will be easier for her to understand it if it comes from me.” He nods his head and I take Leilani from his lap and sit her on mine. “ Hey mommy’s princess remember when I said daddy was fighting to protect the fairies and that’s why he was gone?”

“ yes. Grandma.”

“ correct Well you see the man sitting beside you is your daddy and he would like it if you would give him a big hug.”

“ okay.” Leilani gets up from my lap and crawls into Axel’s .

She gives Axel a big hug and then she says“ Hi Daddy. I Leilani.” She says while struggling with saying her name

“ Nice to meet you princess.” Leilani looks up and smiles at him and he smiles back. Like they really do look alike.

“Axel where are you?” I hear a female voice yell

“ living room.” The woman I saw earlier walks in with another woman following behind her.

“ Oh my gosh Axel she looks just like you and her hair is so pretty.”

“ Isabelle this is my sister Zoe. Zoe this is Leilani’s mom Isabelle.”

“ Nice to meet you Isabelle.”

“ Oh please call me Belle and Zoe it’s nice to meet you too.”

“ Can you take Leilani while Isabelle and I talk.”

“ Yeah of course.” Once Leilani and Zoe are no longer in the living room. Axel tells me to follow him. We go to this room that is like a conference room. There’s a round table And everything.I sit on onside of the table and Axel sits across from me.

“ Isabelle we have a lot of decisions to make.”

“ We can come up with a visitation schedule so you can see Leilani.”

“ There will be no need for a visitation schedule because you and me darling are getting married.” I was about to make a joke but by the looks of his face he is being dead serious.

“ No were not Axel. We live in a day in age were people co-parent and don’t have to get married just because they have a kid together.”

“ Isabelle I’m not asking you I’m telling you. We are getting married. Trust me it’s for the best.”

“ And if I say no which I am. What would you do about it?”

“ Either we get married or I’ll take you to court and sue you for full custody.” I want to say he is bluffing but his face is stone cold.

“ You wouldn’t do that. You can’t just take her from me!”

“Don’t try me Isabelle because I will call my dad and my lawyer after we are done talking. And trust me I have the best lawyer.”

“ Just because you have money doesn’t mean you will get custody of her.”

“ Do you have money to fight me in court Isabelle cause I will keep dragging you there until I have her full time and you have her for just a little bit. I could also argue that you’ve had her for two years by yourself and now it’s my turn to have her.”

“ Axel think about your girlfriend Chloe and what she will think of this.”

“ Chloe will still be around. We will sign a marriage contract. And I expect you to do everything a real wife would.”

“ Axel you can’t do this!”

“ I can and I will now choose.” This is really deja vu. It’s like I’m telling my dad I’m pregnant all over again. I’m given two choices either I take the chance and fight Axel or I marry Axel and live a lie.

I feel my eyes water but I quickly push the tears back. “ Fine I will marry you. Now take me to my daughter I’m ready to go home.”

“ Our daughter will be staying here while me and you go move all your stuff.”

“ We’re not moving today please Axel I cannot take all of this. It’s to overwhelming just! This is getting to be to much I need to make arrangements with Paige and I need to talk to my job because I’m living farther away.”

“ Fine you’ll have till tomorrow. And you need to quit your job. I’ll pay for anything you and our daughter need. Your only job will be to take care of our daughter and show up to events with me that’s it.”

“ I’m not quitting school. I’ve worked to hard just to quit. I will become a pediatrician by the age 24 and you won’t stop me.”

“ I read somewhere that you graduated college early and that you are going to Stanford in the fall on a full academic scholarship. I think that what you have accomplished is very Impressive Isabelle and I’m not taking that away from you. I fully support you on finishing school.”

Once we are done talking and coming up with a contract. Axel takes me too where Leilani is. After we get to the room where they are I hear Leilani talking to who I assume is his niece. When we walk in I see Leilani and his niece playing with dolls.

“ Hey Princess you ready to go home.”

“ Auntie Paige.”

“ Yes Auntie Paige will be there waiting for you.”

“ Bye Fay.” Aria said to the little girl and she says bye back.

Axel carries Leilani to the car and I follow. After we have been driving for a while Axel turns down the radio and asks me “ What happened between you and your family?”

“ They said I either have an abortion or leave. I left and I wouldn’t exchange Leilani for the world.”

“ I’m sorry to hear that.”

We arrive back at our apartment and when I get to Leilani I realize she is asleep.

“ I’ll get her you get the car seat.” Once I pick Leilani up Axel puts the car seat back in my car and then walks me to the door.

“ I’ll pick y’all up around noon tomorrow.”I nod my head in agreement. I open the door to my apartment and wave goodbye to Axel. I put Leilani in her bed then I head to Paige’s room and knock on the door.

“ Come in.”

“ Hey Paige I have a lot to tell you.”

“ Girl when I saw your car was here and you were gone I almost called the police.”

“ Well I’m getting married.”

“No your not.” I tell Paige everything that happened between Axel and I. As I tell her what happened I feel a few tears fall from my eyes. I of course quickly wipe them away.

“ That asshole has no right to threaten you like that. “

“ What are you going to do when we move out? ”

“ I’ll spend tonight looking at one bedroom apartments near you of course.”

“ You are literally the best.”

“ I know right.”

I leave Paige’s room to go wake Leilani up to eat dinner. Once she eats dinner we play games with Paige and then watch movies. Once it gets to be around nine o’clock I take Leilani to her room read her a book and she falls asleep.

I lay awake in my room contemplating over did I make the right decision. I’m now marrying someone who doesn’t want me and has a mistress. In the contract it says I cannot be seen with any man other then Axel which is bullshit. If he gets a mistress why can’t I have someone.

I’m doing all this for my daughter and in the end she is all that matters. So I finally go to sleep knowing I did the right thing for her.
