His Surprise Daughter

She’s Here

While I’m sitting at my desk doing my biology homework I feel a sharp pain shoot through my stomach.

“Paige!”

“ What’s wrong?” My roommate s***h best friend yells as she enters my room.

“ I think I’m in labor”

“ What do you mean you think?”

“ I don’t know. I mean I keep feeling sharp pains throughout my stomach.”

“ Okay let me call mom.”

Paige and her mom have been nothing but amazing to me. They know what happened between my family and I once they found out I was pregnant. Paige’s mom has really become like a second mom to me she even flew all the way from California to Texas to be with me as I give birth.

“ Mom wants to know how far apart your contractions are.”

“ I don’t know let me grab my phone so I can time it.” As I was getting up from my desk chair I feel my water break.

“ Um Paige, Tell your mom. My water just broke.”

“Here let me put her on speaker.”

“Jess can you hear me.”

“ Yes I heard that your water just broke. Go take a shower and change your clothes. Then go to the hospital okay. Belle everything will be just fine.”

I slowly get into the shower then I change into my light pink sweatpants and a plain white shirt.

“ Paige I’m ready.”

“ Okay I’ve put everything in the car. So we are ready to go.”

When we get to the hospital Paige parks the car up front so she can bring me in. While she goes to park the car in the parking lot the nurse comes over to me and asks me questions. I give them my name and the rest of my information. I’m then wheeled back to check how far dilated I am.

“ You are five centimeters dilated you need to be at ten to start pushing. I will wheel you to a room once you get settled in the room you can text the people who will be in here with you the code to get to where you are.”

She wheels me into the room and gives me the gown to change into. Once I’m all changed I call Paige to give her and her mom the code so they can come to where I am.

Paige enters the room first followed by her mom. Jess then comes straight towards me and wraps me up into a big hug.

“ You doing okay Belle?” Jess asks

“ Yeah the pain isn’t too bad right now. They say I’m only five centimeters dilated.”

“ Which means we got a long way to go.” Jess says

“ Yep.”

An hour later she comes back to check my cervix and I’m now six centimeters dilated. The pain is really starting to get to me. Paige went to go get me some ice chips while Jess rubs my back.

“ This contraction is almost over Belle. Just keep taking deep breaths.”

When my contraction passes Paige hands me the ice chips and I start to eat them. Throughout the twelve hours I’ve been here I have sat on a birthing ball, walked around my room and I’ve been eating ice chips.

“ Okay Isabelle let me check you to see how far dilated you are.” My contractions are really close together and in getting more and more uncomfortable. “Your ten centimeters dilated which means you are ready to push.”

Paige came on my right side and lifts my foot up. Jess goes on the other side and does the same thing.

“ Alright Isabelle when you feel another contraction coming I want you to take a deep breath in then push okay.”

As I feel a contraction coming I do as my doctor says and I take a deep breath in then I push.

“ Good girl Isabelle. Now take a deep breath and push.”

“ your doing great.” I hear Jess say

“Okay again deep breath in and push push push Isabelle. Okay take a break to catch your breath.”

I’m so tired but I know I can’t stop. I take deep breaths and then my doctor tells me to push again.

“ Isabelle I see her head. Come on take a deep breath in and push.”

I push as hard as I can and then I have to stop.

“ Alright Isabelle one big push and you get meet your baby girl. Now deep breath in and push. Come on Isabelle push.”

A baby’s cry feels the room and I feel tears run down my face.

“ A healthy baby girl.” Dr. Kelly says as they lay her on my chest all I feel in this moment is joy. They then take her away to cut the umbilical cord and weight her.

After we get done with everything and she is all cleaned up they come back and ask me what is her name.

“ So what are you going to name your daughter?” The nurse asks

“ Her name is Leilani Lua Paige Gomez”

“Oh my gosh you named her after me.”

“ Well of course if it wasn’t for you and your family who knows what would have happened to me.”

Paige gives me a big hug and so does her mom.

“ I’m tired.”

“ You take a nap Leilani will be just fine. Paige and I will be here the whole time.”

I haven’t taken nap all day and I’m exhausted. I thought to myself a small nap won’t hurt.

When I wake up I see Jess a sleep on the couch and Paige rocking Leilani.”

“ Hey Paige how long was I asleep for?”

“ Um almost two hours.”

“ How long has your mom been asleep?”

“ She just went to sleep. We decided to take shifts so I took a little nap while mom had Leilani but the nurses came in to check on her of course and now I’m watching her. I also told them you want to breastfeed so they told me to tell them when your up.”

Paige put Leilani back in the bassinet. Then she goes to tell the nurse I’m up. Soon after Paige comes in With the nurse and another woman. This woman begins to teach me how to breastfeed Leilani . At first I had a hard time trying to get Leilani to latch on but eventually I got it.

After I get done breastfeeding I burp her and then rock her back to sleep

“ Belle can I ask you a question?” Paige asks

“ of course.”

“ Can you tell me the significance of Leilani’s full name?”

“ I named her Paige because you have helped me so much. On the day I met you I just lost my family and even though you didn’t know me you allowed me to cry on your shoulder and you have been there for me ever since. The name Leilani in Hawaii means heavenly flower and Lua in Hawaii means relaxation and joyfulness. She was conceived in Hawaii and I wanted her to have a piece of that with her.”

“ You never talk about him.”

“I know.”

“ Do you have a picture of him?”

“ No I don’t. I wish I did have a picture of him so I could show Aria who she looks like because it’s not me.I noticed that the minute she was all cleaned up and placed in my arms that she is the spiting image of her dad.”

“ Why don’t you tell me about him. You talk about him as if he is this great guy but you gave him your phone number and he’s never contacted you.”

“ I have nothing against Axel. We met over the summer in Hawaii. I thought he was a cute older guy. I was seventeen and he was twenty with beautiful blue eyes. Granted I did lie about my age because of how old he was. But When it was time for us to part ways we said our goodbyes and we haven’t talked since.”

“ Why don’t you try and find him?”

“ I would but I don’t know his last name. I also don’t have the money or resources to find him.”

“ What do you mean you don’t know his last last name?”

“ We only gave each other our first names. I didn’t have a problem with that because I was never expecting to have a need to find him.”

“ Well what’s done is done and Axel is missing out on this amazing baby girls life.”

After spending another day at the hospital Leilani and I went home. I was a little nervous to go home because I won’t have the nurses or doctors to help me. But looking at this little girls face makes me want to try that much harder to do my best. I will not only do my best by her but I will better myself for her.
