And now, seeing Lottie repeat the same error was devastating and left them feeling hopeless.
“That’s enough.” Mrs Wade interfered. “ The deed has been done. Lottie is in good shape and that is all that matters,” She reasonably added.
But it was far from the truth. That did not matter.
Lottie might appear to be fine for now, but how would that last? Jones was merciless, ready to strike back at whoever provoked him.
Just as she finished speaking, Jones’s assistant, Seans Jr, emerged by the entrance, purposefully taking three steps forward, and stopped, maintaining a good distance from others.
Although Sean Jr was not a threat to the Wade Family, his presence showed that he had been sent by his master.
“Since Miss Lottie is in good shape, President Jones would like to have her... in his car.” He solemnly delivered with a voice louder than a microphone.
Their faces went white as they gasped in shock and concern for Lottie.
“No.” Mrs Wade arose in defiance. She was not going to allow him to take Lottie this time.
The previous times she did, she never saw Lottie until another incident happened. For two, three months or so, phone calls became the only means of interaction.
Besides, Lottie was not as lively as before. The ever-cheerful young girl disappeared in a twinkle of an eye.
“Tell him that Lottie is yet to recover from the heavy fall. She is seriously ill and not stable. She needs to be properly treated before seeing him.” The whole room fell silent.
“Mrs Wade, I said, he needs her right now. President Jones detests arguments. He is waiting in the car, outside.” His tone was clear.
The fact that Jones was so close was terrifying. But, Mrs Wade turned her back on him, and replied, “A messager’s work is to deliver messages. Tell him I said so.”
A heavy silence fell on the room until someone corrected, “Mrs Wade — He is not my messenger.”
This abrupt statement sent cold chills down the spine of everyone who listened. The mood in the room changed in an instant.
Everyone looked up, except Mrs Wade, whose back faced the two men. Terror, fear, astonishment gripped their hearts as their brains registered the huge, yet gorgeous man before them.
Even Mrs Wade breathed helplessly at the sound of his voice.
His piercing blue eyes settled softly on Lottie as he ordered authoritatively, “Bring her to me.” Sean Jr, who was standing beside him, dashed forward, to meet the young woman.
Meanwhile, Lottie, who had to sit at the edge of the medium-sized bed when he first walked in, could not believe that he had come for her, even on the sick bed. Perhaps, he was really insane as rumored.
She adjusted her long white gown that smelt medicine and whatnot, and put up her tiny hand, blocking Sean Jr from stepping closer. “I will walk, I’m not yet paralyzed.”
She struggled out of bed, slipping on a pair of black slippers, and murmuring subsequently.
“Let’s go.” She uttered, even though it sounded like a death sentence. She was entering a journey of no return. When she had taken just a few steps, her eyes drifted gently towards Mrs Wade, who beamed in uttermost pity and deep concern.
She wanted to assure her, but when Jones walked out, she diverted her eyes and followed suite.
After passing through the long corridor, the exterior view of the exquisitively decorated building came to view. A larger part of the walls were painted deep blue, while the edges, with subtle ash colors. At every corner were colorful flowers that bloomed, alongside wet carpet grasses, glistering with dew.
Lottie wondered if this really was her first time being there. It appeared not to be a hospital - she was likely given treatment in a regular home building.
Her family would never have suggested such an unreasonable idea. Only Jones, the devil’s son, would enforce such an act to save his face and to possibly mislead the paparazzi from spreading the news.
She gritted her teeth, but continued walking and eventually slid into the backseat, its door already being held by Seans Jr, who had been waiting for quite some time. If only she was allowed to love and cherish the love of her life in peace!
Kelvins Leon was the man whom she loved dearly. Countless times she ran to him, only to be dragged back by the monster. Apparently, the last time they discussed was a few hours into the ceremony.
That night was the day they planned to leave for a distant country. Lottie was convinced that he had waited for her by the gates. If only she had not fumbled.
She searched her pockets for her phone, and thankfully found it.
“Will now apologize to me, Lottie?” Jones's voice which came out as a gentle whisper, was in contrast to the murderous and intense glare on his face. This alone sent shivers to her soul.
For the first time since she entered the car, Lottie could not help but voice out a startled scream. She was extremely frightened!
