knowledge is power

Sam's P.O.V Oh boy, here we go. "Please shift so we can start the training." I said and wolves came from all around us. Jac and I eventually stood in the middle of a circle. "Fighting is more than attacking or defending. You need to be able to read the other's moves, what your opponent is going to do is important information that should keep you alive. Knowing your enemies moves is one, then you need to react on them and not letting it know about your knowledge. You can also create your opponents moves. If your opponent is good at fighting and has a fast reaction, you need to use that. Faking your moves once in a while is really important to not let your opponent know everything about you. Fighting is something you do, your whole body does and you can control. If you don't want to fight or don't feel like fighting, you won't be able to do so." I said. The rouges understood but this was far from everything. "We shall first show you some things and then you can practise. Do not use your nails." I said saying not louder than the other words. I jumped on Jac from the side with my front paws on the other side than my back paws. I jumped down and said: "If you would do this is a fight, you would your nails to stay on you opponent and bite in it's neck. We don't do that now but jumping and keeping your balance on your opponent is very useful." I said and they tried. They jumped against each other, over each other and fell off but no one used their nails. I was proud of them for containing it and rather falling off than using nails, hurting them and staying on. All the rouges cared for each other and it really shows now they have to attack each other. We walked around giving the rouges tips and compliments. Something Jac and I really learned from our parents is that we learned way better on compliments than hundreds of tips. They were very useful but not when we wouldn't get a compliment too. After a while I thought it was time for a new move. "Enough of this move for today. A thing you see often in fighting is that one of the two stands on it's back paws and kinda fall on the other. The other will stand on it's back paws too and they will b***h fight like that. This is something bears do, not many wolves have any perk with this move. Bears are able to stand and walk on it's two back paws and so shows how strong and big it is. Please, if your opponent bears, don't do the same. If they do it, scratch their belly. It is a place not very protected and when do bear, you can take advantage of that." I said Jac jumped up his back paws and I scratched his stomach without my nails. "When you do this correctly, it should firstly hurt a lot, secondly, it will fall over and thirdly, it won't do you any harm. You have to be quick though. If you take too long it can jump down on you and than it will hurt you much." I said. They did as Jac and I did without using nails, again. We didn't correct the rouges who did the bear wrong since we didn't want them to do it. Some rouges were waiting to long or trying to scratch from too far away. They had to step forward to have a good hit on the other. After this was done, many wolves were already exhausted. "They are dead, this is going to take way too long." I said. "We have to try." Jac sighed. We took some not entirely dead wolves on a search for the herbs. We showed them some, let them smell them, see then and observe them and then we let them find any. The all came back without anything. "They smell like forest." I explained to them. "You have to know where they grow, rather than how the smell. You won't be able to follow your nose too much on this one. They grow around chestnut trees. If you use your nose to find those and your eyes to find them, you will find them. We sent them out one by one so they would find them themselves and not by following others. They one by one came with some herbs and they went back to sleep. We did this only a couple time since we didn't have to pick all the herbs up now and have no when we need it. We had a hard time teaching the rouges how to fight but it eventually worked out. We didn't think of one thing, or we didn't want to think about it. Alex couldn't change yet. He would be able to change in a year or so since we didn't know his exact birth day. He wanted to learn how to fight really bad but Jac and I couldn't teach him how to fight as a human since we've never been one. Luckily Luca, Ollie and Marcel wanted to teach him how to fight while we were teaching the rest. He still didn't agree to us leaving without him but began accepting it. We were spending as much time with him as possible and we often went to climb the shadow mountains with him. Ruth also decided to meet Alex. They didn't know each other but Ruth knew his parents. They became close too because they would be able to talk about their experience in Colin's pack. Oliver and Ruth decided they wanted to go back to Lightning's when Jac and I were leaving. Alex waned to come with them for a while but if he didn't like it he would be picked up by Luca and stay at the base with him. Alex wanted to visit the Silent howlers pack to search for people he knew who had survived Colin's tyranny and killing sprees. We had finally taught the rouges enough about fighting after three weeks. They were going to keep practising if we left and Marcel would teach them and help them. He was most experienced after all. Our final night was all about the excitement of finding our father, not about the consequences for the rouges. There were little but they were there. I was happy they had faith in themselves and took the challenge this base carries. Let's hope they only have little work to do.
