Luca's P.O.V

I woke up before the sun rose because of a certain smell. I couldn't place it. I changed in wolf from to smell it better. I smelled fear. I changed back and woke Sam up who was sleeping at the waterfall as usual. "Sam! Sam!" I said and she slowly opened her eyes. "What's wrong?" She mumbled still half sleeping. "Smell, don't you smell that?" I said and she put her nose up way more awake. Her eyes shot open. "Fear." She said and I nodded. "Let's go." She said standing up and quickly drinking from the lake. I changed again and drank a bit too. Then we ran away and followed the scent. I was wondering what the smell was, or actually, who it was. "It leads us towards Colin's territory. I don't think this means any good." Sam said and I nodded. We had to hurry because Colin could be killing someone. We arrived next to the death pit and I was shocked. Many rouges have been here to look for any survivors but I didn't realise it would look anything like this. They made an actual pit and threw death wolves and humans in it. They shaved many wolves and took the humans clothing. Half of the bodies were rotting away. But where did the fear go? "Look." Sam said. I followed her gaze and there it was. I young boy was standing at the side of the pit, crying. I would guess him somewhere ten or so. "How can we approach him without scaring him?" Sam said and I changed and put my shorts on which I was carrying in my mouth the whole time. "Let me go. A big wolf might scare him but maybe I don't." I said. Sam nodded. "I will look after both of you and tell you if I smell anyone near us." She said. I took a big breath and walked towards the pit. I crouched to look at the bodies and for the boy to notice me. He didn't. I stood up again and slowly walked towards him. When I was about ten foot away from him. He now did see me and froze. "Hey, don't worry. I'm not bad. I'm Luca, what's your name?" I asked sitting down to make him feel more comfortable. "I... I'm Alex." He stuttered softly with still wet eyes. "What happened? Why are you crying?" I asked. Alex pointed at a body. "Can I come have a look?" I asked and he nodded. I walked towards him and sat down again. I looked at the body and it looked a lot him, but way older. "Who is that?" I asked. "Ray." He said. "Your brother?" I asked and he nodded and began crying again. I wasn't sure if it would be a good idea or if it would spook him, but I instinctively hugged him. I was relieved when he hugged me back. I trusted me. "Good job Luca." Sam mind linked and I was happy for a moment. Then I realised I had to talk to him about his parents, which will probably be very painful for him. "Alex?" I said soft. "Yeah?" He said pulling out the hug and looking straight in my eyes. It made me smile to see how strong the boy was. My smile disappeared when I thought about what to say or ask. "Your parents, where are they?" I asked sad. I knew it would brake him, no matter where they are. He pointed at the pit and began crying again. "Can I tell you a secret?" I said and he nodded. "They aren't there." I said and he looked at me like I was crazy. I pointed up. "They're there. They are looking over you. Now your brother is there too. My parents are there too. They are looking over me and everything I do. They are angels and look over you from up their. They will always be with you. Remember that okay?" I said and he smiled sad. "And my little sister? Is she there too?" He asked. "Everyone who once died, goes there. They see what we do and know what we think. They are there for you and they see you, you just don't see them." I said and he hugged me again. "Are you alone? Do you have family left?" I asked and he shook his head. I made my tighten our hug. "I have to tell you something. A friend of mine has been looking over us the past minutes. She is a wolf and protects me at all costs. She was looking if any danger was around us and there isn't. I would like you to meet her." I said trying to get Sam involved. "Where is she?" He said looking around. "Her name is Sam. Will you ask her to come?" He nodded. "Sam? Sam? Sam are you here?" He said and not long after his facial expression changed. Not scared, phew. His mouth was wide open and his eyes were popping out. "She's cool, isn't she?" I asked him and he nodded. I knew Sam liked it if people, children specifically, weren't scared of her but thought it was cool. "Want to hear something ever cooler?" I asked him and he looked happy and nodded. "She can talk with you through your mind. She can't read your mind but can talk with you like that." She said. "You have a remarkable way of selling your products." She said and turned to Alex. "Hey, what's your name?" She asked acting like she didn't hear a word of the conversation we just had. "I'm Alex, nice to meet you." He said with a big smile on his face. Sam and I both saw when that light bulb in his head turned on and he had an idea. "Can I pet you?" He asked smiling. Sam walked towards him and Alex began petting her head. "Can I ride you?" He then asked with a wide smile. "Yes, you can. But just this time." She said laying down. I helped Alex on her back and she stood back up. Sam walked around a bit and we moved away from the pit but not too far away so he wouldn't think we are kidnapping him. Alex had a lot of fun and it made me laugh seeing him so happy. I first saw him crying and now he is happy and laughing his lungs out. Sam and Alex were wrestling a bit when Alex thought about something again. This time he wasn't so sure about our answer and was a bit afraid to hear a certain answer. "What do you want to ask?" Sam asked standing up and helping him up as well. "I was wondering if I could go home with you. My alpha doesn't care about me anyway." He said and it broke my heart. Alex was looking down and nervous to hear the rejection. "Alex." Sam said. "look at me." She pushed his head up with her snout and Alex looked straight in her eyes. "You are welcome where we live, everyone is welcome. Don't be afraid to ask us things because of course we want you to be happy. Yes you can come with us." She said and Alex jumped towards her to hug her. "Thanks." He said. "Will you take care of me?" He asked and we both nodded at the same time. "Shall we go to your new home? Or do you have things you need to take with you." Sam asked and he shook his head. "If you go on my back, then Luca can change too and we will arrive sooner." Sam said and he nodded. I lifted him on Sam's back and went behind a tree to change. When I came back Alex's mouth was catching flies again. "Wow." He said. "You both are so beautiful." And we both grinned at each other. "Thanks." Sam said. "You are the most beautiful boy I have ever met. The most beautiful, strong and bravest to ever live." Sam said and he smiled. "Shall we go?" She asked and he nodded. "Hold on good okay. If you don't you will fall off and that hurts." she said and Alex grabbed her fur. We began running and Alex was struggling a bit to hold on. "Wait." He said. "I have a better idea." He said and her laid down and hugged Sam tight. He looked way more secure like that. "Where are you?" Jac mind linked us. "We smelled a scent of fear and now have a little boy with us. His name is Alex and he doesn't have any family. He asked if he could go with us and we agreed." Sam said. "Be back soon, we have a report of a strong scent of blood coming our way and Marcel, Oliver, Rowan and I are checking it out. I'll see you soon." Jac said. "See you soon." Sam said and we arrived at the base not long after.

Sam's P.O.V

We arrived and I had to take some precautions. "Ruth." I mind linked and I spotted her at the lake. "I have a boy with me from Colin's pack, Alex is his name. I don't know if you want to see him in public because you want to hide your previous pack from the others." I told her. She stood up immediately and went into the forest. "Don't go too far please. You don't know this place that well yet." I said. She nodded while walking away and ran towards the shadow mountains. There she knew I could find her if I had to. Luca was changing and still in the forest while many wolves came towards us. I tried to keep them on a fair distance so Alex wouldn't feel attacked of any kind. "Don't worry, they're all friends and won't hurt you." I told him to calm him down. Luca came back. "Please don't scare him. He is only a boy." He said picking him up. "Let's drink something." I told Alex and Luca and we walked towards the lake. I drank while Luca was showing Alex how to drink in human form. After we all drank something I didn't know what to do with Alex. "Jac?" I mind linked. "Yes." He said immediately. "Did you find anyone yet?" I asked. "Yes, it's a young woman but she is afraid of all of us and doesn't trust us. I'm guessing she is abused in her pack." "And the blood you smelled." "She is full of wounds, comparable with how we found Fox. Fox had lost a lot of blood, though, and she is just wounded. It hurts her a lot, we can all see that. I asked Fox to come because he has been through almost the same thing, but she also doesn't trust him." He obviously doesn't know what to do. "I will take Abigail with me and join you so she can trust woman. If she was abused, it was probably by men and not by women. So I will get Abby and leave." I said. "Thanks. It's needed." He said. "I have to join Jac and some other boys on a rescue mission, she doesn't trust men so I'm taking Abigail with me to gain her trust. I hope you can do something for yourself." I told Alex and Luca. "Maybe I can help?" Alex asked and I shook my head. "Sorry bud, but this could get dangerous and she has a lot of blood already, I'd rather have you safe." I said and he was sad. "Sam, he could help. Many woman like little kids and since Alex is a kid, he might help you gain her trust." Luca said. I sighted. "You might be right. But Alex, there are a lot of other wolves and it could get dangerous. Please think about yourself too. He nodded. I called Abigail and we followed their scents.
