Ash POV
As Ash looked around the training yard, she was taken aback, but not unsurprised by the amount of people present. She should’ve expected it, really. Their parents were well liked in the community when they were alive, so she was well aware of the extensive interest in Chrysalis’ revitalisation project. For possibly the hundredth time, Ash was grateful of the support of the ranked members of the pack. After the council meeting, she, Alex and Sam had returned, and had 2 months to not only plan and deliver a party, but also finish the build and fit out of the pack house, so the visiting Alphas had somewhere to stay/sleep.
Truth be told, she was nervous for a number of reasons in regards to opening up the pack to the world. They weren't a big pack any more by any means, and there were many more females than males. Most of the males had died along with their parents, with many of their mates dying over the years, withering away as their other half was no longer here. The pack was made up of some older wolves from the original pack, but most were children of those who perished. Ash was concerned about the she-wolves finding mates this weekend, and leaving. Ash hoped that if that happened, many would stay, and increase their numbers. She, Alex and Sam had discussed this, and agreed that meeting with any newly mated couples and discussing what the new pack could offer them to stay was a good way to try and manage this.
Shaking her head, Ash smiled as she surveyed the area again. Ash caught sight of a tall figure at the bar, and she felt that familiar tug. Lin was paying attention now “that’s him, that’s him” She danced around in Ash’s head. Ash groaned. This really was the worst timing. Faith hadn't had a chance to complete the charm she asked to make a few weeks ago, after they returned from the conference. A few years ago, she would’ve welcomed meeting her mate. But now, it was just one more headache to handle. Her wolf disagreed, though. This was the one thing that they did not agree upon in fact, and Lin was upset with her that she had asked Faith to make a charm to suppress her scent. Lin was a great wolf, and they had gotten along well since Lin came to her on her 16th birthday. Her first shift, on her 18th Birthday, had been magical. Ash smiled at the memory, looking over at her twin brother and his mate, who were laughing with some of the other pack members. She saw Faith next to her mate, Chad, and their Beta, talking to visiting pack members that were present. She was so grateful that they were all much better at this than her, it really took the pressure off.
Ash’s eyes were drawn again to the man by the bar. Maybe he would be awful, and it would be easier to resist the mate bond, reject him even. At that thought, Lin whined in her head. Ash grabbed a drink, and hoping that the crowd would mask her scent, slowly made her way over to him.
Javier POV
He was impressed at the amenities available, and that house prepared to host all the visiting alphas. Javier walked down to the party, With only one thought in mind. To find out information. Rumours had surfaced that at the council meeting the alpha had introduced the new pack name and pack plan to the council and it has not gone down well. Apparently the meeting, that was meant to only meant to be a 15min mention, lasted over an hour and the Alpha and company was seen hastily leaving the building. It sounded like things have not gone well at the council meeting and he wanted to know why. He wanted to know what about this pack was causing huge issues amongst the council members. The secrecy bothered him; dobody knew any specifics, nobody has seen Alpha Ash and he wanted to know why. He wanted to know what about this pack that drew him in. His had received a message from his brother earlier, who had told him that the Alpha had changed up the rank structure and introduced females into ranked positions, though it was unclear how or why. He thanked CJ profusely, feeling more confident that there was something here to be found.
Javier took up his usual place, by the bar. He found that the bar was where people were the most loosed lipped and willing to strike up short conversations and from where he could always stay inconspicuous and survey the room. His eyes were drawn immediately to the woman from the party when she entered the room. She was gorgeous there was no doubt about that. She held an air around her importance. Javier with certain in his assessment that she had to be the new Luna. She looked up and they locked eyes, staring at him for a moment and Javier couldn't help but look away. He watched out of the corner of his eye as the woman walked over to him. As she got closer, he couldn't help and take a tentative sniff of the air, surprised when he couldn't smell anything overpowering. She drew up next to him, settling in to crowd watch. He thought he caught a faint whiff of jasmine now she was next to him, soothing almost. It called to him and his wolf, but it wasn't what he expected. It was like the smell was on her clothes, but not coming from her. It was the same smell that could be found everywhere within the pack. His wolf Kade paced in his head, equally confused. They stared at her, watching as her full lips smiled at him before moving. What he wouldn't do to taste those lips, run his hand over her hips, and mark her as his … Javier was startled at the errant thought. It was most unlike his wolf, as Kade was usually not that interested in she-wolves. The woman smiled up at him, as if waiting for an answer. He smiled back at her, racking his brain. What was it she had asked him? He was so busy trying not to think inappropriate thoughts about her that he missed it. Maybe it was something about what he thought about the place? “I'm impressed” he responded, hoping that was the right answer. He couldn't understand why he was flustered. He was never like that around shewolves. But this she-wolf obviously wasn’t his mate either, so that didn’t explain his errant thoughts. But he could take advantage of talking to her, given that she was a member of Chrysalis pack. He tried to be subtle in his inquiry. “There seems to have been a lot done in a short amount of time.” He turned his gaze to her. “I must admit though, I am very interested in meeting the Alpha. I hear they have some radical ideas that have, uhum, shaken a few feathers”
