Chapter 6- Chrysalis Pack

Ash walked into the Elders chambers a few hours later, flanked by Sam and Alex. She had been short with them all morning. She saw them shooting glances at each other the whole ride over. The six council members all watched as they approached, and Ash saw a few of the glance at each other. She knew what they were thinking. It was precisely that thinking that they were up against. Ash knew she needed to be on her best behaviour if they wanted this meeting to be a success. Alex mind-linked her obviously thinking along the same lines. ‘Are you ready, B1? Alex’s use of their childhood nicknames made Ash’s lips turn up at the corners. “I'm ready B2’, she linked back. As they approached the elders, Alex and Sam drew up beside her. Ash took a deep breath. “Councilmen, thankyou for your time today.” Ash dipped her head, and watched as Alex and Sam did the same. She straightened, waiting for the council. She saw Elder Roy sitting back, his finger peaked, surveying the trio over the top of his hands. Elder Peter spoke first. “I understand that you come before us today to request to start your own pack.” Ash bit her tongue. The Elders were demanding this meeting, more like. Ash took a deep breath, considering her words carefully. “Respectfully, no sir. We are requesting to re-name our pack, and have submitted, as per the by-laws, the names of our new ranked members, as we have recently had to fill some positions.” Sam stifled a chuckle her on her right, and she shot him a look over her shoulder, and he quickly recovered. Elder Peter cleared his throat as Elder Roy handed over the pack brief they had submitted weeks ago. “Ah yes, well, this is the issue you see. Your ranked members are all new, and you are requesting a new name. This means you are establishing a new pack.” Ash scanned the council men, noting a small smile on Elder Roy's face. He was enjoying this. “Apologies sir, you are quite correct, of course. However, we do have a ranked member staying on from the previous Alpha’s team, albeit in a different ranked position.” We are happy to go over this with the council if you like?" Ash watched as Elder Peter flicked through their brief. He looked over at the trio, sneering breifly at Ash before his eyes rested on Alex. ‘Enlighten me, son.”

Ash nodded to Alex to go ahead. This was not the time to upset them further; they hadn't even got to the upsetting part yet. “Of course sir” Alex responded, stepping forward again. “I’d be happy to”. “As we mentioned earlier, we have some new ranked positions; our Cleric, Evan, who is our head healer. We also have our Hayley, our Head Omega, who manages the support wolves, and also reports to our Luna.” Ash watches the members of council faces. A few exchanged glances. Ash knew this might happen. Not only were they adding positions, but placing a female in ranked positions was totally new. And this was just the beginning. Alex though, continued, ever confident. “We have introduced these 2 positions as we felt it was important that all members of the pack had a ranked member they could be tied to, allowing for more seamless panning and enhanced pack communication. Our third new position is that of our Delta, who is head of intelligence. Historically, we know this responsibility has sat under the Gamma with the warriors, however again, for clarity, we have decided to separate the two. Our Delta is Dominic, who is the second son of the Beta of the Red Mood pack, and has agreed to join us after finding his mate within our pack.” Elder Roy nodded, acknowledging the strength of having Red Moon’s beta’s son join the pack. Alex continued. “ Then we have the Gamma, our Head warrior. Domonic reports into our Gamma, so the Delta is more of a semi-ranked position.

Next up is Chad, who is the son of our parents, Beta. We have made it so that like when the Alpha leave the pack, the Beta steps in, so to will our Delta step up when our Gamma in away on pack business. Lastly, we have our Alpha, and Lune to oversee our pack.” Alex took a breath, and stepped back. Ash too took a deep breath, and saw Sam do the same. Elder Peter perused the pack chart again, before looking up at Sam. “I take it you are their Gamma, then son?” Sam swallowed before answering. “No sir, I am Sam, the Lune”. “Lune?” came the incredulous echo from the councilmen. Elder Roy sat silently, already aware of this revelation, being the one who had suggested it in the first place. The councilmen all turned and whispered amongst themselves. Ash didnt dare link her brother about the sudden name change from Luna to Lune. This was too important a time for even the slightest distraction. Afterall, it was Sam's position, he should have the right to decide which version of the word he wanted to use. After a few minutes, the Elders turned around. Elder Peter continued to speak for the group “This is most unorthodox. Whilst we appreciate you may be the Alex’s mate, a Luna is traditionally a woman’s role. May we suggest that you, young lady, are your brothers Luna instead?” Ash smiled internally; they had been expecting this. Elder Peter continued “it is a fine thing you two are doing here with your parents pack, What better way to honour them by following in their footsteps, becoming Alpha and Luna?” Ash spoke up this time. “You are right, we are trying our best to honour our parents legacy. To that end, I could not possibly be Luna. I have neither the grace nor, um, interest, in fulfilling that role in a way that would bring honour to our mothers memory” Ash waited, holding her breath again. Elder Peter stared at them, for the longest time.

It was Elder Roy, who finally spoke “Very well then. I hereby declare on behalf of the council that we accept your new ranked members, and name change to Chrysalis pack.” Ash blew out the breath she had been holding, and heard Alex and Sam do the same. They bowed, Ash thanking the Goddess they had gotten away with it. As they turned to go Elder Peter called out to them. “Before you go, please resubmit your paperwork. I note that some omega has mixed up your names, writing Ash’s name as Alpha, instead of you Alex. Please see this is fixed on your way out. The Elders all stood. Alex and Sam froze, looking to Ash. Ash groaned. She was hoping they wouldn't pick up on that. She turned around, and again, bowed her head slightly at the Elders. “Thankyou Elder Peter. However, the document you have is correct.” She paused, waiting to see his reaction. Elder Peter looked at her, his brain furiously working behind his eyes, trying to make sense of it all. “Of my, have I mixed your names up again? My Apologies Alex.” He turned again to leave. Ash sighed, before calling out to him again. “No sir, you have our names right. I am Ash, my brother is Alex.” Ash took another deep, calming breath “Alex is our Gamma, and I am to be the Alpha of Chrysalis”
