YOU HAVE A BLIND DATE

DONOVAN’S POV Sparring with Zara was hell. The b***h always acted like we were enemies and not literal day-ones, that and the fact that she always forgot the memo that this was only training and not real life. I liked that about her though. Zara was the only one that did not treat me like porcelain glass simply because of the fact that I was the firstborn Omega of the Moon Flower Pack and next in line for the throne. Steel clashed against steel as our daggers met with enough force to send a sharp vibration up my arm. I barely had time to recover before she came at me again, relentless as always. I ducked beneath one strike, spun to the side, and threw a kick that she blocked with a grin that only made me want to hit her harder. "You'll have to do better than that," she teased. "Oh, shut up," I muttered, lunging at her again. She slipped past my attack with irritating ease, forcing me to stumble a step before regaining my balance. We circled each other, breathing hard, neither of us willing to back down. Just when I thought I had finally found an opening, Zara feinted to the left before darting right. A sharp sting ripped across my abdomen. I froze for half a second, staring down at the clean slice in my shirt before hissing through my teeth. “You… ugh, my mum is going to kill me,” I said. Zara laughed and threw a towel at me. “But it happens every day, though.” I caught the towel with a sigh, pressing it against the cut before shrugging. “True.” After we said our goodbyes, the next hard task was sneaking back inside the house… “Stop right there, young lady!” I should have known; this was an impossible task. I stopped dead in my tracks and turned to see my mother glaring at me with an angry expression. I raised my hands in mock surrender. “Alright, I am going to need you to calm down a bit, Rachael.” Her face got even angrier, and she folded her arms. That was enough to get me to sober up. “Alright, it’s not funny… sorry, Mum.” “How many times have I told you to stop hanging out with that Beta girl?” “Too many. And each time, I have to remind you that Zara is my best friend and that is never going to change.” Her eyes dropped down to my injuries. “Look at how you are dressed. Look at the injuries on your body; this is not how the future leader of our pack should behave!” I scoffed. “I can always heal, Mum, and just because I am an Omega does not mean that I can’t learn to defend myself.” “But—” “I am really not in the mood to have this conversation with you again, Mum.” This conversation had always gone the same way since I could remember, so much so that I could even say that I knew the words by heart at this point. I was the only Omega, future leader of the Moon Flower Pack, and I knew the responsibilities that befell me. I had to carry on the bloodline, look all prim and proper, and just spend my entire life being some doll that people could look up to. And I loved my mother, so much…. But no matter how much I loved her, I could never be like her. If only she could defend herself, then Dad would still— The twins rushed into the living room, cutting through my train of thought and effectively taking away Mum’s attention from me. “Donnie, Donnie, look what we learned!” they said at the same time, bouncing excitedly. I swear to the goddess that the two of them probably shared the same brain cell; they were so similar sometimes that it was scary. I squatted, looking at them with a wide smile. “Come on, show me.” They both got into position. “I’m Bright…” one said. “I am Diamond…” the other said. “And together we shine bright like a diamond!!” they said in unison, making jazz hands like they were in the first edition of Hannah Montana. I clapped my hands. “That’s amazing,” I said, and they both smiled at me, exposing their missing front teeth. Mum did not look pleased at all. I shrugged. “It was really creative to me…” I pinched both their cheeks. “Rihanna would be so proud.” Martha rushed down after the twins and bowed her head before gathering them up. “Come on, it’s time to have your bath.” Before she could leave, I stopped her. “I am sorry… for earlier,” I said. What? Just because I could be a little bit insufferable sometimes—all the time, if you may—doesn’t mean that I was incapable of feeling guilt. Besides, I could admit when I was wrong and make amends. “It’s alright, Madam,” she said and left with the twins. I turned back to my mum. “It was nice running into you this morning, but I will get going now.” “Wait…” she said before I could leave. I turned. “Is there anything else, my lovely mother?” I asked. “You have a blind date today.” “No.” “Donovan—” “I don’t want to do it. I can’t have any more blind dates, Mum. I literally can’t.” “But you know that it is your duty; please. At least try to meet this one.” We stood there, staring at each other, none of us willing to back down, and after what felt like hours, I finally blinked. “Fine, I will meet him or whatever.” She smiled and clapped. “But Donovan, be nice to this Alpha this time.” I shrugged. “No promises.”
