DONOVAN’S POV
“Babeeeee!!!!”
I smirked the second I heard the voice, and my eyes shot straight to the entrance alongside every other person in the restaurant because of how ridiculously loud she was being.
Always so extra.
A few people openly stared, while others whispered amongst themselves, but my girl paid them absolutely no mind. She marched right up to me with dramatic crocodile tears shimmering in her eyes.
"Baby, we just had one fight and you're already cheating on me with him?!" she cried, pointing an accusing finger at Julio.
His eyes widened so much I thought they were going to pop out of his head. He looked like, now more than ever, he wanted the ground to c***k open and swallow him whole.
"Y-you... you're with someone? A woman?"
I slowly stood up and folded my arms across my chest.
"What? Do you have a problem with the fact that I'm in a relationship, or the fact that she's a woman?"
"..."
"Cat got your tongue?" I tilted my head. "Come on. f*****g speak."
"Um... none?" At this point, it honestly looked like he was confusing himself.
Tiny beads of sweat had gathered around his forehead, and his body quivered ever so slightly.
I clapped my hands together once.
"That's settled then."
I walked over to him, invading his personal space just enough to carefully pat his cheek.
"As much as this face has been nice to look at, I don't f*****g like Alphas. And I only promised my mother a date, not a husband. So... goodbye."
His jaw tightened before he finally sighed.
"With all due respect, Your Highness... I never want to meet you again."
I smiled at him, though it was nothing but plastic.
"I think we will be meeting again, Julio."
Zara immediately choked on a laugh.
"His name is f*****g Julio?"
I shrugged.
"Same, babe. Same."
She slipped her arm through mine without missing a beat and even went the extra mile by pecking me on the lips.
"Come on, baby girl. Let's get out of here."
As we started walking away, I suddenly stopped and turned back toward Julio, who was still standing there trying to process everything that had just happened.
"Oh—and thanks for feeding me. I hope you find the woman for you."
To my surprise, he gave me a genuine smile this time.
"Thank you."
The moment Zara and I stepped outside, we both burst into laughter.
"That was hilarious," she wheezed, wiping away a stray tear.
I snorted.
"Don't I know it? I think I must've traumatized him by now."
"You probably did." She laughed again before looking over at me. "But... was he really that terrible?"
I let out a long breath.
"There was honestly nothing wrong with him. He was actually... nice."
I hated admitting that.
"But I don't want a mate, Zara. You know that."
"But Donnie—"
I shot her a glare so sharp it could've cut steel.
"Don't. I am never getting mated to a f*****g Alpha."
My eyes shifted into the deepest shade of blue, and my fangs slid down before I could stop them. It was like my wolf was fighting deep inside of me to burst out and tear down everything within her path.
This always happened whenever I lost my temper.
I fought back, though, using every ounce of my strength to keep my wolf at bay.
Zara instantly took a cautious step closer instead of away. “That was stupid of me to say," she murmured. "I'm sorry."
That was enough to cool the fire burning inside me, even if only a little. The anger slowly settled, but it still left a bitter taste in my mouth.
I rubbed at my temple.
"Let's just go."
Just as we started walking again, a man dressed entirely in black came barreling around the corner. His cap was pulled so low it practically hid his entire face, and he was moving far too fast to pay attention to where he was going.
He slammed right into me.
"The f**k—"
The words died in my throat.
Sparks.
Nothing but sparks.
The instant our bodies collided, every nerve in my body lit up. My breath caught somewhere deep in my chest, refusing to come back out. It felt like there were tiny little pins injecting m*******a into my bloodstream… scratch that, this was a different kind of high that no drug could ever compare to.
My entire body felt weightless, as though I was floating inches above the ground instead of standing on it.
Goosebumps spread across every inch of my skin, and a sharp, burning sensation shot straight to my core.
My eyes widened.
I had only ever felt something like this...
...in my dreams.
Who exactly is this man?
The stranger that was able to make me forget how to breathe for minutes, and make the entire noise of the world disappear… even my wolf, she was silent and the only thing that I could do was look at the retreating figure of his back.
Damn, he looked sexy…
I wanted to know who he was, I wanted to—
Before I could even think, my body moved on its own. I took a step after him, desperate to see his face.
But Zara caught my wrist.
"Babe, no. He isn't worth it."
I blinked.
The feeling vanished just enough for reality to come crashing back.
I looked toward the man disappearing into the crowd before forcing myself to look away.
"...Yeah."
I swallowed.
"You're right."
