DONOVAN’S POV

“Have you lost your mind?” mum asked looking like she was one second away from passing out.

I folded my arms “Mum, the whole point of this is for me to choose someone, and I have made my decision.”

“You are not making any sense” she said.

“I know mum, but I have made my decision”

We stood like that staring each other down, and after a good five minutes it was obvious that I was not backing down on my decision she nodded once.

“Fine, do whatever you want” she said.

I smiled and kissed her cheek “thanks mum” I said and walked down to the center of the arena.

The announcer looked like he was about to pass out. He bowed so low that he might as well just get stuck there…

Seriously, I heard his bone c***k.

“Thank you so much for your hard work sir, but I think we already have a winner.”

“W-what… uh… how?” he asked spluttering all over the place.

I shrugged “this guy Gale Steel he is the winner” I said.

When I looked at Gale, his eyes were already on me with an amused expression, but I simply glared at him.

He bowed “your wish is my command Your Highness” there he was again, using that title like a tool used to mock me.

I plastered a fake smile on my face “that’s settled then, this is the man I chose to be my mate!”

My voice was clear, stating my decision loudly for everyone to hear, daring anyone to challenge me.

The instruction of the elders was that I found a mate before I could take over from my mum. They did not have the right to choose for me, and no one here had the right to question my decision.

And as absurd as it sounded, I would rather be with Gale, someone that did not bother to suck up to me because of my family’s position… I did not like him, and he knew that so there was no reason to pretend with him…

But more than that, there was the more selfish part of me that chose him because of the way he made me feel.

There was no other person that could bring out the part of me that Gale did that night, set my body on fire the way he did when he did not hear me listening in on him.

I wanted that, even though I was not willing to accept it out loud.

“Donovan!”

The hairs on the back of my neck stood upright…

I turned with a nervous smile “Aunty Kelsey, how are you?”

Aunty Kelsey was my mother’s elder sister and also a prominent member of the council of elders.

She would have been the leader of the pack if not the fact that she was born with the Beta gene, and even though she had come to terms with it now, I knew that it still made her sad whenever she thought about it.

If there was one thing about this woman, in all the years of knowing her, I knew that Aunty Kelsey was a scary woman.

She was the exact opposite of my mother.

While my mum was the one to coddle me, Aunty Kelsey would not hesitate to whoop my ass... She was also someone that was so f*****g suspicious of anything.

My sudden decision must have sparked alarm bells in her head and she was probably here to get to the bottom of this.

I gave Gale a side glance “behave”

He shrugged “whatever you want your highness.”

Aunty Kelsey folded her arms and shot me a pointed look “what are you up to this time?” she asked.

My mum was right beside her “Kelsey…”

“Stop it Rachael, you spoil this girl too much” Aunty Kelsey complained.

I slipped my hand into Gale’s hand and stepped forward with him “Aunty, don’t be angry with mum… I promise you this is not one of my usual tantrums” I said, ignoring the sparks that made me feel like I was on fire.

“When I say that this is the person that I chose to be with, I mean it” I said “I promise you, this is not a hoax or some elaborate plan aunty… I just want him.”

Okay, someone better get me an Oscars because i definitely deserve one for my top notch acting skills.

“Why?” Aunty Kelsey asked.

Fucks sake.

This woman would never just let anything go.

My face turned the brightest shade of pink and I cleared my throat. I thought I might have been imagining, but I felt Gale’s hand tighten around mine.

It was gone before I could even fully register it though.

Yep, I was definitely just imagining it.

“Mum, Aunty, I did not want to say this earlier because I was embarrassed…”

“Donovan, what are you talking about?”

I pulled Gale closer until it looked like we were practically glued to each other, the heat from his chest pressed against my back.

“Mummy, meet Gale, the mystery Alpha that I was telling you about.”

Their jaws dropped.

“The man?”

I nodded “yes mum, that one.”

“You are telling me that this was the man that you met that night and was having the time of your life while we almost went crazy looking for you?”

Gale laughed behind me and I could feel the vibration of his chest.

“Aunty, don’t say it like that” I murmured.

My Aunty glared as Gale “where were you for two years?” she asked.

It was his turn to be on the hot seat, and I for one was finally glad that eyes were off me.

He stepped forward and smiled at my aunty.

This fake ass b***h, I had never seen him smile so widely before. “Aunty, can I call you Aunty?” he asked.

She actually smiled at me “since Donovan chose you personally, I can say that we are basically family” she said.

I was gob smacked.

He removed his hands from mine and took hers.

My wolf growled, and I refuse to mention or acknowledge the emotion I felt right now looking at him holding her.

“I never thought that the moon goddess would make us meet again, but I am glad… because the truth is, I also had not stopped thinking about her since that night as well”

My Aunty actually squealed “sounds like destiny”

I arched a brow at her “are you fan girling right now?”

“Shut up Donnie, who knew you would have found such a handsome man?”

My mum moved forward “I am happy, someone is finally able to change my Donnie’s heart”

Aunty Kelsey looked at him “Donovan is handful, are you ready for this?”

I groaned and grabbed his hand again “let’s go” I said and started dragging him away ignoring mum and Aunty Kelsey who were having a field day teasing me.

Zara and Julio were standing not too far. Zara had her mouth wide opened while Julio was looking at me with a smirk. I gave both of them a pointed glare.

“Not now”

And then I dragged Gale away.
