I was a zombie, every time I came to, they drugged me again and all I did was curl up and sleep. I had my eyes open at some point and the room was spinning. I ended up running to the small bathroom and throwing up.

They came in and the nurse said it was because I was having withdrawals. When I asked what they meant by that, the nurse said it was because my sister said I was a drug addict.

I lay on the floor in stunned silence. Not only was I supposedly suffering from some form of psychosis, but I was also now a drug user. When is Claire’s lie going to come back and bite her in the rear?

I groaned as my stomach rolled and boiled with nausea.

“Sir you can’t go in there. She is under observation and she is not to have any visitors as per her sister’s orders.” I crawled out of the bathroom and dizziness swept over me again.

“I don’t care, I am her lawyer and her fiancé get out of my way, or don’t blame me for what I will do.” My heart leaped into my throat. Alexei was here!

“We have no record of her having any fiancé. She is also having withdrawals from drugs.” I groaned again.

“Alexei!” My voice was harsh and the door burst open. He looked exhausted, there was three days’ worth of stubble on his face and his clothes were rumpled. There was an older man behind him with several other men.

“I’m calling security!” The older man rolled his eyes.

“I am security but go ahead. Alexei, we will be out here trying to get things settled so she can come home with us.” He nodded and I crawled into his lap shivering.

“I finally found you. We will get back home, everyone misses you. I missed you.” I could hear the heart in his voice.

“How did you find me? Claire is supposed to come and get me.” Fear was a knot in my stomach. I was gripping him and he pulled me closer. I was enveloped in his familiar scent and it was like coming home.

“Your friend Silva managed to get a hold of me. I am sorry that I couldn’t get here before everything. I’m so sorry Anna.” He was stroking my hair and holding me so tight I couldn’t breathe. I didn’t care though, he finally found me.

“Oh no, Silva, is she going to be safe? Claire knows her and will go after her if she even suspects that…” He pushed my hair out of my face and he was kissing me as if he were a man that was drowning and I was his last gasp of air.

I pulled back, dizzy and panting. Placing my forehead on his he wiped the tears off my face with his thumbs.

“I missed you so much Annabelle Devreaux.” He was cradling my face in his hands and there was a knock on the door.

“Oh no, is Claire here already? Please don’t let her take me again Alexei I managed to escape her once and that was because Maddox helped.” My heart was hammering against my ribs.

“No, it is probably Sawyer. He is an old Ranger buddy of my dad’s.” He helped me to my feet and I clung to him. It wasn’t because I was weak and needed him, I was exhausted and the drugs were messing with my head. Literally.

“I managed to talk with her doctors. They are getting her discharge papers ready now. We have a slim window to get out of here because Claire is in the hospital.” I gripped Alexei’s arm and his jaw tensed.

“I don’t care if I have to wear this hospital gown out of here, I need to go.” I whispered. Sawyer looked at me with pity and shook his head.

“Well, it seems she has been brought in for an examination. She was beaten up by Anna’s boyfriend Maddox.” Sawyer ran a hand through his hair and I hissed.

“That b***h what did she do now? Maddox isn’t innocent in all this but he did help me escape.” I felt nauseous again and ran to the bathroom and threw up. Alexei was talking with Sawyer and I hoped that Maddox was ok.

It wasn’t his fault that he was in love with a complete sociopath. I groaned and leaned back against the wall. I know this wasn’t pregnancy related, they did bloodwork on me and it was negative. Which was a relief to me.

“Ok honey I hate to do this to you but we need to get going. Sawyer and his men are going to see what is going on with Maddox. We will need to bring him in because he was a part of the kidnapping and privy to setting the fire.” I nodded and groaned again.

“I feel like crap and it isn’t pregnancy it is because they have all these drugs running through my system.” There was disappointment in his eyes and I laughed at him.

“Alexei you and I haven’t done anything since this all started. Did you expect me to end up pregnant by some miracle?” He started laughing as well and held me close.

“Ok lovebirds, I’m getting you two out of here and to a safe place. I have a doctor that is going to look at you, Anna. I don’t trust that Claire hasn’t drugged you and to try and get whatever these people injected you with out of your system.” He handed Alexei some clothes and disappeared again.

I heard radios crackling and men talking amongst themselves.

“We need to get you out of here before Claire realizes I’m here.” I nodded and stripped out of the scratchy hospital clothes and slipped into the too-big sweats with the Keating Security logo on them.

“Ok, folks we need to go now. They have Maddox in custody and I am trying to get them to release him to us so we can take him back to Scotland.” I nodded and another wave of dizziness came over me and the room was spinning.

“Sorry doll I’m going to have to carry you. You’re in no condition to walk.” He picked me up and started carrying me and I was too tired to argue with him.

All I kept thinking was, what next?
