I Don't Like This

After beating Mack up and then listening to him complain about the d**k I drew on his face, I was exhausted. I came home to the chaos of animals and kids. It was great to finally be home. Even though it wasn’t my own place.

Where family and friends were, that was home. The only person missing was Anna. My phone started ringing as soon as we pulled into the driveway and I looked at the number. My stomach dropped, it was Alexei, he either had good news or bad news.

“Alexei?”

“Jer, Oh Jer, I miss you so much!” My eyes went wide and I started ugly crying. I didn’t care that Daniel was looking at me as if I were going to explode.

“I MISS YOU TOO!!! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ARE YOU OK?!?!” Tears were streaming down my face and I had a death grip on the phone.

“Hold on let me put you on speaker. Daniel is here looking at me as if I am going to start having a break down or something.” I hit the speaker button and Anna’s laughter filled the cab of the truck.

“Daniel, how are my animals doing?” I stared at the phone in horror, she has me on the line and all she can think about is her animals?

“You should see the look on Jer’s face right now. Angus is going to need surgery on his knee though, the puppies are getting big and everyone is fine. Now did you hear the news?” I glared at Daniel, how dare he put her animals above our marriage announcement.

“It was probably because you told me my animals were fine and the first thing you didn’t say was that you guys were engaged.” She started laughing again but she sounded weak and tired.

“Yes, you know how long I have been waiting to plan my wedding. Then you go and get yourself kidnapped. At least you are ok, are you ok?” I was trying not to make it about me but it gets hard when I am the center of attention especially when it is my wedding.

“Jer honey you are turning into a Bridezilla.” I gasped; how dare she insult me like that!

“Yup, there is that face again Anna. Are you and Alexei coming back to Scotland soon? Everyone misses you, especially Caleb.” I heard her sigh and knew that she didn’t have anything good to say.

“Before you break the bad news to me, I drew a giant d**k on Gregor Mackenzie’s face in permanent marker.” I was proud of this and I didn’t care.

“Was it a big veiny one? Please tell me that you took pictures?” There she was the girl I loved and knew.

“Of course it was. I even have pictures I will send it to you when we get done talking. So when are you coming home? We need to discuss my wedding and you are my maid of honor.” She yawned again and I frowned what was wrong with her?

“Well, that is why I am calling. Alexei is talking with a guy named Sawyer Keating who is a silver fox, just your type.” I blushed as Daniel shot me a look.

“So he does have a type after all, and here I thought he was just chasing cute butts.” I slapped Daniel across the chest and grinned.

“Oh you two are cute, but here is the deal Claire is still at large and I don’t know where she is. She needs to be brought down right now though and the only way that can be done is if we can lure her out. So I need to bring Mack to Italy and well we will be the bait.” Daniel and I looked at one another.

“Before you say anything Jer, Alexei already read the riot act to me and I am doing this. If I don’t, I am going to forever be looking over my shoulder and wondering when that viper is going to strike.” Cursing under my breath I knew she had a point.

“What do you need us to do Anna?” I handed the phone over to Daniel. I couldn’t say anything to her right now because I was livid. If I talked to her now things would be said in the heat of the moment that I would not be able to take back.

I stepped out of the car and saw Sully walking toward me. I’m sure he didn’t know what was going on either. He would be on my side surely. I nodded for him to follow me into the barn and he glanced at me curiously.

We stepped into the cool interior of the barn and I was greeted by a loud hiss. A giant feathery creature stuck its head over the stall and snapped at my head.

“What the hell Hennessey!” I swatted at the emu and she hissed at me again. Sully was shaking his head and looking sad.

“This bird was already kind of a b***h but since Anna has been gone, she has been unbearable. I thought it was because she had babies but she is even being mean to Caleb and he was one of the few people that could go near her without her taking his head off.”

“I never liked this giant feather duster. However, I guess it is to be expected though. Anna was always taking in animals that were a little quirky.” Sully laughed and then looked sad.

“I miss her Jer and I know you have to be missing her even more than me.” He gave me a hug and a part of my brain was excited that I was now crushed up against the body of a Mackenzie.

“So what did you need to talk to me about?” I almost forgot why I had motioned for him to come in here.

“Ah yes Alexei found Anna but there is a giant hiccup. Claire is still at large and this girl wants to use herself as bait. She also has it in her head that your brother will be helpful in her throwing herself to the wolf.” Sullivan looked deep in thought and shook his head.

“I suppose it makes sense but I don’t think my brother is in any condition to actually keep Anna safe.” Frowning at Sully I crossed my arms over my chest. It doesn’t sound like he is going to take my side in this.

“Your brother is the reason she was kidnapped in the first place. I am going to make damn sure this is not going to happen again. I don’t like this plan and I don’t expect anyone to support me on this but I’m going with Gregor and I will keep Anna safe.” I stalked out of the barn and slapped the emu as she tried to bite me again.

I pounded on the window because Daniel was still on the phone. He jumped and shot an annoyed look at me. I gestured for him to roll the window down and give me the phone.

“What is going on Jer you look like you’re ready to go to war.” I growled and took the phone.

“Anna, if you are going through with this stupid idea, I am coming down there and I am going to watch your back because I don’t trust Gregor Mackenzie to keep you safe. Now you text me the information so I can get my gorgeous butt on a plane to you.” I hung up before she could even bother arguing with me.

Daniel climbed out of the car and wrapped his arms around me then kissed my temple.

“What was that for?” Not that I was complaining because I loved being wrapped in his arms.

“You just took control like a mama bear and I hate to be Claire if she comes across you.” I growled and kissed Daniel again.

“You’re damn straight, that crazy b***h has messed with my family and screwed up my wedding as well. I cannot forgive her for that.” I pounded my fist into my hand and winced in pain. Daniel picked up my hand and placed a kiss on my palm.

“Don’t hurt yourself and come back to me, ok?” My heart melted and I practically fainted in his arms.

“Besides we still need to have a girls night of watching Gone With the Wind.” I grinned at him and sniffled.

I was going to bring our girl back and we are going to have that girls night. Even if I didn’t like Anna’s stupid plan.
