HISTORICAL NOTES Wolfe’s victory at the Plains of Abraham in 1759 is often seen as the decisive battle of the British conquest of Canada. Little attention is paid to the subsequent campaign, where the British endured a Canadian winter without adequate provisions, followed by battle and siege. Although the exploits of Rogers Rangers are well-known, they tend to detract from the other actions of this unit, who acted as scouts, messengers and skirmishers for the British.
