Balqis’s POV
I danced like there was no tomorrow again tonight. Nirvana was behind me, backing each dance up and was wearing a mask like me.
All these while, the whole crowd was cheering, the man sitting in the deep corner of the parlour wasn’t reacting.
I wondered what kind of man he was. Throughout the entire performance, he sat motionless, watching me dance. Something about him interests me, but I dare not move closer to him.
However, after two hours, my body has stared to become giddy and reluctant to heed to my response.
My mask only concealed my identity but never my pregnancy and I could hear some men already whispering how a pregnant dancer could still perform this well.
When I felt I can’t take it anymore, I stumbled out of the dancefloor, coughing and clutching my chest. My throat has tightened up, as if air couldn’t come in, I’d danced too much as which this heavy pregnancy….
Mrs Kathy opened the door to the background urgently and rushed to me. “What happened to you, Bally? Are you fine?”
I continued coughing, as my heart and my chest needed more air.
She fanned me despite the Air conditioning, and managed to get me to the toilet and drench me with water.
“Your baby is a very strong one. That’s why your body is this hot after dancing” she jested but gods know I’m not in any mood to joke around right now.
“Mum, can’t Nirvana finish things up? I don’t think I can ever get on that stage and still dance” I pleaded, as I was managing to stand properly on my feet.
She held me. “No, Balqis. I even forgot to tell you that the guest dropped a huge tip for you so you….”
“Mum the guest and the men could see I’m pregnant!” I argued. “Did you want me to die just with today’s dancing alone?”
Worry edged on her face, she looks really petrified and I wondered why she’s very adamant on me dancing tonight.
The Mrs Kathy that I know wasn’t the kind of woman that would look this concerned just because she wanted to satisfy someone? I trapped her shoulder, “Mum, is there something you’re not telling me? Since yesterday, you’ve been on and about this guest?”
Our eyes locked for a long time. Like she was trying to covey something to me without saying it and I was more worried as well as confused. I tapped her again, “Mum, why are you….”
“Fine. Don’t dance anymore. He isn’t worth the stress anyway” she shrugged and proceeded to leave, while I stood there, stunned.
‘Did you think she’s really innocent?’ my wolf asked. I shook my head, staring at Mrs Kathy’s back as she leaves, “No, Rina. I can’t trust this woman and I don’t think she’s innocent”
‘Then what will you do? She’s hellbent on getting you back on that stage’ She sounded concerned as she asked this again. I shrugged his time. ‘I don’t know, Rina. But I must rest right now’
I also walked away from the backstage and the toilet area.
However, something is not right, I could tell it. Just as I begun to walk, a feel like someone was behind me enveloped my body in a way I wasn’t expecting.
Normally, drunk guys would always try to harass me sexually before I was pregnant, but now… Who would actually want to flirt with a pregnant woman?
I turned around the corner leading to the dressing room just behind the club where the sound blaring from the DJ’s desk intensified.
But this corner was dark. The primal feeling grows incredibly stronger and I stopped abruptly.
“Who’s there?” I asked sharply, but deep down, I really don’t want to deal with any drunkard right now.
No answer. Only the music was playing and this got me more worried.
I pressed against, “Anyone there?”
This time, I heard footsteps approached me from behind. My fear soared, I turned back and through the shadow of the light, I saw the silhouette of a man.
He was standing properly, and didn’t look drunk but my heart was drumming against my ribcage. ‘Who on earth is this?’ Rina also wondered.
I held my breath, ‘Get ready to shift and scratch whoever it was in the face, Rina’ I informed her.
The man closed the distance between us slowly, like I was watching horror movie. His movement instantly sparked the idea of backing off in me, and as he was coming, I was moving backwards.
Each step by step until my back met with the club’s cold wall. My heart sank and panic surged more than it should have.
Breaking my voice again, I asked, “Who are you?”
Finally, he stepped out of the darkness and came into the light. But shockingly, he was wearing a mask. An oddly mask that didn’t look anywhere familiar to the ones I have been seeing on the men since the beginning.
I had taken of my mask earlier while coughing and so, he was able to see my face and then he asked, “Are you Balqis?”
I gulped harder and I could hear the best of my own heart despite the music. “Y… yes, who are you please?”
His cheek that was half closed shifted into a smirk I couldn’t tell if it was the mocking one or not. Then his voice echoed again, “No wonder he would want to die for you again?”
I frowned, still scared. “What are talking about please?”
My plead was cut short as he rushed at me immediately and in the next instance, he was standing before me, neck to neck, breathe to breathe but I couldn’t recognize his face because his mask only covered his eyes and not his lips. I watched the movement of his lips as he whispered. “None of them deserved you. Only I…”
“No!” I shrieked and pushed his chest with the strength in have left. “I don’t know you!”
He might be a kidnapper. With the rate of kidnappers increasing by the day, all these could be strategy to get me and I’m not falling for it.
He caught me again, and pinned me against the wall, his hand on my belly this time. “He lied to you about fruits….”
I looked up at him urgently immediately he said that. Fruits?
Then he continued again, “The reason why the best fruits are forbid is because, they only belong to certain people and not the general public!”
Cold spears of shock shot into my body, I couldn’t move or even breathe, as his words seeps into my brain.
Adonai! Only Adonai and I talked about fruits, then how did this stranger that didn’t t even look anything like him know? My heart stopped and my breathing caught in my throat. Could he be….
No. Adonai was dead. I’d seen the news and they said his body was never found. This was impossible.
But why then did my wolf surge forward, recognizing something I couldn’t see? Why did every fibre of my being scream that this stranger was…
“Adonai?” I whispered.
“Get your hands off my woman, Darkmoon!” A thunderous voice suddenly yelled from the darkness.
Darkmoon? Was that the masked stranger’s name? Before I could make out who talked and why I was called their woman, both of them are already rolling in some corner, both changed into their wolves.
Two wolves fighting, but I couldn’t identify anyone of them. Their scents were masked deliberatly and I realized that I was the target of whatever they’re planning.
My chest thumped and I yell before running away.
All these must be a dream. It must be a dream!!! I thought as I ran, but this time, I hit my head on a platform.
I stopped as I realized I’d run into a man. He was also wearing a mask covering his half face. The radiation of power and contol around him made me have the feeling that he was the man that called me his.
“S...sorry” I apologized, trying to move past him.
His hand shot out, gripping my wrist. “Would you like to sleep with me?” His voice was smooth, and the same as the one I heard before but now more cultured.
I stared at him in shock. Everyone is mad!!.
But something about that voice felt very familiar…..
