The first thing Conner did when we arrived at our room was grab me up in his arms again and hold me close. Only releasing me with one arm, he shut the door behind us and led me towards the bedroom and the bed. For the longest time he simply sat, and held me. “I knew, or I thought.. That this would happen one day. But I thought that day would be way in the future. When we were older. Much older. Maybe had a few kids already. Put a few decades behind us. Lived.” I realized suddenly Conner was babbling and turned to place a hand on his cheek, lifting his face so he’d meet my eyes. “I didn’t want..I didn’t expect..it’s so soon.” Conner almost pleaded with me. His mind reached out for mine and blasted me with raw, unfiltered emotion. Loss, pain, longing, fear, all mingled together so strongly
