Sweat dripped from my forehead. The heat of that hot day made me more irritable than I already was.

I couldn't bear the thought of intervening in other packs, especially after my disastrous morning, but it was necessary, as this was a grave matter.

“Star Pack representative, please present the slaves from the war with the Polar Pack,” I said to the Alpha kneeling in front of me, who didn't hesitate to agree.

I was taken into the pack's trial room and soon there were fourteen women kneeling in front of me.

I knew there were fifteen people, but I deduced that one must have died, run away, or something. However, Tryn, who had been silent since the moment I had with Selena, spoke up.

“Julian, they're lying. There's one more person.”

“And how do you know?” I asked in our mental connection.

“I don't know for sure, but you have to trust me.”

“And which time didn't I?” I said, trying to reconcile.

“Every time you let that b***h Selena touch you, even though I told her not to.”

Yeah, things weren't going to be easy with Tryn, so I gave him some space and asked the alpha in front of me.

“I'm missing a slave. How dare you deceive me?”

“I had them all brought in. Pardon me, King Alpha. I'll locate the last slave right now.”

I ordered the slaves in front of me to sit down on the floor and get out of that kneeling position, because I was sure that things weren't going to be as simple as they seemed to be.

I remained standing, even though almost an hour had passed. My blood was boiling with pure hatred.

Suddenly, a woman is placed on her knees at my feet and I am shocked by what I see.

A young woman with black hair and white skin, who was barely visible due to the blood, dirt, and bruises, but who preserved an untouched beauty.

“What happened to her?” I asked angrily.

“She had an accident in the emerald mines,” one of the men who had brought the woman answered and I knew immediately that this was a lie.

I asked again and got the same answer, so I didn't hold back and used my Alpha command and saw everyone kneeling with their necks exposed, except her, who remained on her knees looking at the ground.

“What's going on, Tryn? Is she a human or a witch?” I asked my wolf, who was also amazed at how that fragile, bruised girl could resist my power without me even sensing her presence.

“I don't know what's going on or who this woman is, but I'm sure she's a werewolf like us, even if she doesn't feel like a wolf. In any case, even if she were human, she wouldn't be able to resist our power,” Tryn replied as I noticed a certain agitation in his voice.

I froze at the scene, still using my Alpha command, so that I could better analyze what was happening.

Everyone in the room remained motionless as if time had stopped, except for her.

Although the black-haired woman still had her head down, I could see her move to breathe, showing that she hadn't been paralyzed by my power.

“Who are you?” On impulse, I asked the woman who seemed to be immune to my presence.

“I'm nobody, just a slave with no past and no future,” she replied as she raised her head and I was struck by those blue eyes that seemed to be able to read my soul.

“Is she an enemy?” I asked Tryn mentally, trying to understand who this woman was.

“No, but I'm not sure if she's a friend, in fact, I'm absurdly confused. Even though I can't smell her or feel the presence of a wolf, I'm sure she's one of us,” my wolf replied, clearly shaken by the creature.

I turned my attention back to the woman in front of me and was overcome by a wave of pain as I realized how badly she had been treated. I wanted to take care of her and protect her, but I couldn't be reckless.

If anyone found out that this fragile woman in front of me was immune to my alpha power, she would certainly become an easy target for both my enemies and my allies and I didn't want any fuss, at least not without understanding what she really was.

“Put your head down. You're not allowed to look at the Alpha King like that,” I verbalized the order she was supposed to be following while I neutralized my power and everyone returned to normal, but my intention wasn't to be arrogant but to make sure no one realized that she was immune to me.

“Alpha of the Star Pack, can you tell me why you keep these fifteen women as slaves?” I asked, already knowing how this conversation would end.

“King Alpha, we went to war with the Polar Pack, but their alpha was such a coward that he ran away and to maintain our honor, he brought a sample of the destruction we caused.”

“You know very well that although it's not forbidden, I can't stand the idea of slaves,” I emphasized so that he would understand my displeasure.

“I understand, Your Majesty, but only then would they accept our victory and I could take over the lands of the Polar Pack.”

“I declare that you have won the battle and that the lands of the Polar Pack belong to you, but I demand that everyone be freed,” I said to the Alpha who, as I expected, was clearly upset.

“Who am I to question the Alpha King, our supreme leader, but... I want revenge and if I don't have any important hostages, I'll never get my hands on that alpha project that dared to mess with my Luna.”

“I don't like being questioned,” I said in a serious voice. “But your request is valid, so I'll free all the slaves except one and take her to serve me in my pack. When Alpha Max shows up, you capture him and I'll free the slave, preserving your honor.”

“Everyone will know that she is a slave from the war between the Star and Polar packs and that you were victorious, but I won't leave her here.”

“My fate is yours!” The Alpha said and knelt before me in surrender.

“Take all these women to the Royal Pack and help them get back on their feet and perhaps find their relatives from other packs.”

They began to take the women away, but when they reached the last one, the mysterious woman who was shaking my thoughts, I stopped them.

“She's my personal slave as of today and therefore doesn't have the same rights as the others. She won't find a new start until I tell her to. From today she lives to serve me. Take her to my house and leave her in the care of my housekeeper. She'll know how to treat a slave.”

Once they had all been taken away, I asked Alpha and the two men who had arrived with my slave to stay. I had something to settle with them.
