Chapter 4:what moved Beneath the waters

Stella smiled proudly as she played with Jordan knight necklace in her fingers .
Valerie felt her heartbeat slow painfully .
Her eyes slowly moved toward Jordan .
“Explain yourself” she whispered .
Jordan looked tense immediately .
“It’s not what you think princess”
Stella suddenly laughed loudly .
“Oh please Jordan stop lying . It’s embarrassing”
Valerie chest tightened instantly .
Stella walked closer with a wicked smile on her face .
“You really thought a man like him would fall for you that quickly?” she mocked . “God Valerie you really are pathetic sometimes”
Valerie clenched her fists tightly .
“Shut up Stella”
“No I won’t” Stella replied proudly . “You should actually thank me honestly . At least now you’ll stop being delusional”
Valerie eyes moved back to Jordan again .
He still wasn’t saying anything .
And somehow his silence hurt more .
Stella smirked noticing Valerie expression .
“Oh don’t look so shocked . Jordan was already mine before he became your knight”
Valerie frowned deeply .
“What?”
Stella smiled wider enjoying every second of it .
“He only got close to you because I told him to”
Valerie slowly stepped back .
“No…”
Jordan finally moved forward .
“Valerie listen to me”
But Stella interrupted quickly .
“You know what the funniest part is?” she laughed softly . “You fall in love so easily . First Chase . Now your knight”
Valerie felt humiliated .
Completely humiliated .
“You used me?” Valerie asked quietly looking at Jordan .
Jordan expression softened immediately .
“It wasn’t supposed to happen like this”
That answer alone shattered her completely .
Stella rolled her eyes .
“Oh please Jordan don’t start acting guilty now . You were literally in my room an hour ago”
Valerie felt sick instantly .
Her eyes slowly dropped toward Stella neck .
Fresh red marks covered her skin .
Her stomach twisted painfully .
Jordan noticed Valerie staring and immediately looked away .
Coward .
Again .
Tears burned Valerie eyes but she refused to cry in front of Stella .
Not again .
Stella stepped closer with a satisfied smile .
“You know Valerie maybe the problem is you . Men always leave you for me eventually”
The words hit hard .
Too hard .
Valerie suddenly shoved Stella away angrily .
“Don’t touch me!”
Stella gasped dramatically .
Jordan quickly held Stella waist .
That alone broke something inside Valerie .
The way he held her protectively .
Like Valerie was the problem .
Stella smirked immediately .
“You see? Even now he’s still choosing me”
Valerie felt tears slide down her cheeks instantly .
She looked at Jordan one last time .
“I hate you”
Jordan face dropped immediately .
“Valerie wait”
But she was already running .
She ran through the hallway with blurry vision while tears poured endlessly down her face .
Servants called after her but she ignored everyone completely .
Her chest hurt so badly .
Why did everybody always betray her?
Why?
She rushed outside the palace and immediately climbed onto her horse .
“Princess!” guards shouted in panic .
But Valerie ignored them completely .
The horse sped out of the palace gates at full speed .
Cold wind hit her face as she rode through the dark roads crying uncontrollably .
The night felt colder than usual .
The sky suddenly rumbled softly above her .
Valerie wiped her tears angrily .
“I hate them” she whispered shakily .
The wind around her became stronger .
Leaves started blowing wildly across the road .
But Valerie barely noticed .
All she felt was pain .
After a long while she finally reached the river .
The same river her mother used to bring her to as a child .
Valerie slowly climbed down from the horse .
Everything was quiet .
The sound of flowing water .
The cold breeze .
The moonlight reflecting against the river .
This place always made her feel close to her mother somehow .
Valerie slowly sat near the edge of the river and broke down completely .
Sobs escaped her lips as she buried her face into her hands .
“Why does everybody leave me…” she cried softly .
The wind around the river suddenly became stronger .
The water started moving strangely .
Small waves formed despite the calm night .
Valerie however didn’t notice anything .
She was too hurt .
Then suddenly
Meow .
Valerie slowly lifted her head .
The white cat sat quietly a few feet away from her .
Its silver eyes glowed softly under the moonlight .
“You followed me?” Valerie whispered .
The cat slowly walked toward her before sitting beside her silently .
Valerie let out a weak laugh through her tears .
“At least somebody stayed”
The cat stared quietly at her .
Then suddenly the river water behind Valerie moved violently for one second .
Like something huge had just moved underneath it .
The white cat immediately stood up alert .
Its silver eyes narrowed toward the river .
Valerie frowned slightly finally noticing the movement .
“What was that…?”
