Chapter 2: What Child Is This? Les and Edward, nearing home, let “the kids” off their leashes and allowed them to run loose ahead of them. When they arrived at their usual turning point off the high street and onto Mulberry Lane, a young girl came rushing out of a brown thatched-roof cottage. “Meine Mutter ist…my mother…come schnell!” Leslie and Edward followed the girl through the front entrance, on through the living room, and down a narrow hallway into a small kitchen at the rear of the house.
