I hugged my duffle bag close to my chest as I rode the ferry into the city.
I had to wait a while to leave until Lucia was out of the house. She would definitely be suspicious if she saw me leaving the house with my duffle bag and after her warning the other day about knowing if I was lying about where I was, I decided to play it extra safe.
Lucia was a tall, thin woman and liked to appear graceful, but fortunately for me, she was loud around the house. If I opened the basement door just a crack, I could listen and figure out where she was in the house and if she was moving around a lot.
