Chapter 23: Back in the City *Mia* I wanted to laugh hysterically when I got off the ferry, this time back in the city. That was the most times I had ridden the boat in a twenty-four-hour period. I wondered briefly if the ferry workers were concerned for my sanity. I lugged my bags around the waterfront. It was nearly nine, but since it was a Friday night, there were actually quite a few tourists around, holding hands with their significant others and gazing out at the water, which shimmered thanks to the reflections from the city lights. About twenty minutes later, I was seated on a bench with a small cup of convenience store ice cream. I poked the wooden spoon into the rock-hard dessert. I wasn't sure why I thought the ice cream stand would be open at nine, but I had been hopeful.
