Edward turned to a clean page in his tablet. “New start then. Any ideas?”
“Not really an idea, just an impression,” Caroline said, then to Leslie, “Don’t take offense, darling, but I felt something was off about her.”
“A feeling? Intuition?” Edward said. “Something she said or did?”
“It seemed obvious from the start Les was smitten with her and I think she played into this.”
“Be specific,” Edward said.
“The book, for starters. Who would loan someone a book without asking the person’s reading taste first? You have to admit it’s odd, Les. You were a clerk in a bookstore. Would you push a new title on someone without first finding out what that person liked to read?”
