IVY'S POV
The low whistling from the kettle on the gas cooker echoed in the kitchen. I was still typing on my laptop and my phone vibrated on the table. I peeked at the screen and saw Jace calling.
I pressed the power button to end the call and stood up to prepare coffee. My wedding is just three weeks from now. I don't want them destroying the one thing I have built for myself over the years.
They can all go to hell.
After my hot cup of coffee, I left my apartment, and the drive to the bar where I work was short because it was just a few blocks away. My life was pretty simple and peaceful and I loved it that way, although I can't say the same for my past and I try my best to keep it buried.
Bobby was out getting rid of the trash when I arrived and after exchanging pleasantries I went in to start my shift. I sent a quick text to my fiancé Ethan about picking our wedding cake together.
"You are early today" My boss Margo said as she joined me behind the counter.
"Well I didn't have anything else to do at home, besides Bobby wanted to leave early because of his wife so I agreed to help" I shrugged and she shook her head as if I was being too nice.
Maybe I was but it was relieving to be of help for a good cause, Bobby's wife just had a baby and he needs to be there for her. I wonder what it would be like to have my own family someday with Ethan.
The bar was packed when it got dark and I served all the drinks requested, Margo even had to come and join me because of the high demands. I spotted a familiar leather jacket in the crowd and all the alarms inside my head started blaring.
"I will be right back" I hastily got out of the bar and passed the guards outside, the alleyway was dark and I darted for the streets but I couldn't find anyone with a leather jacket.
Was I just being paranoid?
I checked again but I couldn't find a bike either so I went back, a bit on edge and vigilant. Who knows what my brother was planning, I certainly do not want to be a part of it.
After work I left for my fiancé's house, he lived far away from this side of the city and despite all my efforts to live together Ethan wanted us to get married first before I moved in.
It's been a week since we saw each other and I was excited, eager to be in his arms. Ethan has a way of making everything else go away, the feeling of unease from the leather jacket thing would be gone when I'm with him.
I don't care if my family refuses to come to the wedding. I have already made up my mind to marry him, a normal caring man and I would live a normal life.
I got to his house and parked my car after taking my bag, I hopped out of the car and headed inside taking two staircases at once.
I opened the door with my own spare key and walked in, the TV was on a baseball game playing on the screen.
Someone was in the kitchen and I grinned knowing Ethan. He always comes up with new recipes and none ever tastes good but I pretend to like them.
But as I got closer, I started hearing a soft feminine voice, my legs came to a screeching halt when I got to the kitchen and saw a blonde girl chopping veggies with her phone on her shoulder pressed to her ear while she spoke with whoever was on the phone.
Tall and slender, she moved around like she owned the place, my hands were trembling but I schooled my expression there had to be a logical explanation for this maybe she's a cousin or something.
I opened my mouth but no words came out, she turned and finally noticed me.
"Let me call you back, Dylan" She furrowed her brows.
"Are you lost?" She asked and I scoffed.
"I'm supposed to be the one asking that question, who are you and what are you doing here?" I demanded.
"Excuse me" She looked confused.
I was about to give her a piece of my mind when Ethan showed up.
"Is dinner ready yet, baby?" He called his gaze on his phone and when he looked up his eyes widened.
"Care to explain what this is?" I glared and he sighed walking past me to the blonde girl in the kitchen.
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming over?" He asked, wrapping his arms around the girl, my eyes blurred and I blinked, hating how my heart stopped beating for a moment as he kissed her hair.
"I sent you a text- who is she?" I managed to keep my voice and he rolled his eyes acting as if I asked a ridiculous question.
"This is Clara, she's my girlfriend" He replied nonchalantly and she relaxed in his arms.
My jaw dropped.
No it can't be.
Maybe this is a dream and I will wake up tomorrow. This can't be real. Our wedding is in three weeks. I have made arrangements.
"What do you mean this is your girlfriend? We are engaged!" I yelled, tears blurred my vision.
"I don't love you, Ivy, I never did. And you should understand that I had no choice, this is the woman I'm in love with, I feel nothing for you and I always wondered how you never saw that" He retorted.
My heart shattered into pieces, I don't know how I found the strength to move but I left for his room, he followed me from behind along with his girlfriend.
I entered his room and opened his closet packing all my stuff, I couldn't find some and I just settled for taking what I could as I held back angry tears.
My eyes strayed towards the fancy lamp I bought for him while planning on moving in after we get married. I didn't think twice before throwing it to the ground. Clara screamed and I ignored her completely.
It crashed and scattered but I wasn't done, every single thing I bought wasn't staying here.
By the time I was done, the room was in ruins, satisfied I removed the stupid ring and shoved it on his chest before leaving.
It was when I got to my car that I let myself break down in tears.
