Chapter Two

1045 Words
IVY'S POV I was delusional. I thought I could finally be happy and free but it turns out it was all a dream, what I desperately wanted to be a dream was last night but I woke up this morning to an empty ring finger. It was real. I was too tired to cry, I felt stupid because I loved him and I wanted a future with him. A normal life. The type I have always craved. My phone was vibrating on my vanity and I dragged myself out of bed to check who was calling. A pathetic part of me hoped it was Ethan calling to apologize for what he did to me. It was Jace, my insufferable elder brother. Anger simmered inside me when I saw his name, it's all because of them that I can't have a normal life and I was this close to escaping. "What do you want from me?" I asked as soon as I picked up. "She finally decided to pick up the damn phone" He said sarcastically. "I really don't have time for this right now, I'm busy and I warned you not to reach out" I remarked. "Oh please don't give me that bullshit, what do you think you're doing? You belong here, Ivy, and you will come back. That pathetic mediocre life you live over there is just a facade and we both know facades don't last forever" He countered. "Are you done? Some of us have work to do in our pathetic mediocre lives, an actual job that doesn't require killing someone or holding a f*****g gun. Let this be the last time you will call me to lecture me about my choices, you picked yours I picked mine" I gritted out angrily. "Too bad little sister, you will be coming home because our father is dead." He stated and I swallowed. That's not true. "What do you mean he's dead? How?" I rasped. "Why don't you come home and find out for yourself? He died two days ago and if only you had picked up your bloody phone I would have told you the news, this should be the last time we talk over the phone. I want you back home in twenty-four hours or I will make my boys come there to drag you back in chains" He threatened coldly. "You don't have to be such an asshole about it, I will come back for the funeral and leave after. Besides if you send your boys they'll be the ones dragged back in chains" I replied and hung up on him. My father just had to go and die at the worst time of my life. I feel sad about it but I feel nothing at the same time. I needed time to get over what Ethan did to me and now I have to go back to that hellhole I call home. The last time I was there, a gun was pressed to my head and I almost died. My so-called father is one of the most selfish men you would ever meet and his selfishness almost cost me my life. My elder brother is reasonable sometimes but he's just as controlling. I vowed never to go back after I escaped, I ignored them and cut off contact with the gang and anything that had to do with them. I should have known they would find a way to drag me back someday, it just had to be at the worst time. I started packing my stuff along with my broken heart. I called my boss and informed her I would be gone for a little while. Deep down I don't even plan to stay that long, I just want to attend the funeral and pay my last respects then get the hell away from them. I booked a flight for the next morning and prepared to go back home, all those memories I left behind all the nightmares flooded my mind. I kind of wish I didn't have to go back there, I don't want to. I couldn't sleep and kept tossing and turning in my bed that night, soon it was sunrise and I left for the airport. I was on the plane in a few hours ready to go to Arizona, there was no backing out now so I accepted my fate. When we arrived in Arizona I got a taxi to Tucson and arrived at the venue for the funeral, several bikes were packed in the cemetery and I saw my father's men all dressed in black. I paid the driver and alighted from the taxi, dressed in black jeans and a black hoodie. I strode towards where they were standing. The casket was about to be lowered inside the grave they had dug and they were saying prayers. I stood beside my brother with a rod in my spine. "You are late" He muttered under his breath. "Well I couldn't fly myself down here, trust me I would have flown down the moment you told me if I had wings" I replied, my eyes on the crowd there were some new faces among the familiar ones and they were watching me. No sign of mussed dark brown and intense blue eyes in the crowd. I could feel his eyes on me but I couldn't tell where he was, so I settled for what I flew down here for. The brown casket was lowered into the ground and I sighed, the casket was ugly and my father won't be pleased in his grave. It was funny how the vicious Ronan Wilder's remains were shut inside the casket, going under and never to be seen again. I tried to find that sinking feeling or at least put up a show but I couldn't, I couldn't find any good memory to mourn over and the air was suffocating. Like a tight leash on my throat, I wanted to escape and never come back. Just then, there was a commotion in the back. The men yelled and reached for their weapons. "What's going on Jace?" I panicked but he didn't reply, taking his gun, loud revving of motorcycles, and more yelling signaling intruders. Tragedy struck as bullets rained upon us.
