Chapter Three

1235 Words
IVY'S POV My life has always revolved around danger, my father is the leader of The Inferno Riders Biker gang, and as his daughter I was pretty much a target. Always a target until I learnt to protect myself. But the last time I found myself in this kind of situation was when I decided to leave, this is exactly why I ran away. Why I refuse to come back. Before I could process what was happening someone yanked me back, the firm but soft grip on my hand made me flinch not because I didn't expect it but because the contact was familiar. I was surprised when I turned to find Zain a rifle in one hand, dressed in all black towering over my 5'6ft with his 6'7ft height, he didn't exchange words with me and just dragged me behind one of the bikes, his dark brown hair tousled but damp like he rushed down here from a shower or something those intense blue eyes finally found mine and I froze. All those years of stolen glances and tension flooded my head. "It's nice to see you too, Princess" He smirked, that stupid one-sided dimple visible. "Thanks but in case you forgot I can take care of myself" I stretched my hand for a weapon but he ignored me. "Look I don't have time for this s**t right now, hand it over" I interjected and he looked at my open palm before dragging his gaze back to my face. "Are you here for good or will you bolt the next chance you get?" He asked, I was taken aback by his words. Is that what he thinks? That I'm running away like a coward? "Give me a gun, these people interrupted my father's funeral" I glared, the gunshots were fired and our gang recovered from the shock and started retaliating. I diverted my attention back to Zain and he was watching me with this strange expression on his face, I don't know how long we stared at each other but I felt like he was staring into my soul. "Don't slow me down" He tossed a pistol at me and I corked the gun. We started shooting and managed to get out of our hiding place, a large gravestone was a few meters away and I rushed to hide behind it. Zain followed, still taking down more of the intruders, my brother was nowhere to be found and it was typical of him to leave everything to his enforcer. I don't know what Zain sees in him to call him his best friend, my brother is just as selfish as my father. I shot at one of the bikers aiming his gun at Zain, and he gave me a small smile. "I see you still got it, Princess" He said over the loud shots. "Keep on baiting me and I will shoot your head" I threatened. More were coming and we were running low on ammo, I saw two of our men go down and decided to call the others. "We need to retreat for now" I shouted but Zain wasn't listening. "We will be surrounded if we don't leave right now!" I pointed out. "Sorry Princess, but things have changed here since you left. We don't back down and I promised your brother I would take care of it. Go find somewhere to hide and I will find you when I'm done" He replied. I wanted to argue but what do I know, so I ran and hid dodging bullets and praying the gravestones they were destroying would be replaced. I found a place to hide and start there. Soon the shooting stopped and I heard grunts of pain, probably from fighting hand-to-hand or with knives. I waited until I couldn't hear anything, then I was about to come out when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I didn't think twice and flipped whoever it was over my shoulder. I slammed my fist down but it was caught and I gasped when Zain chuckled. "I knew you were going to do that" He taunted looking amused, I exhaled in relief then realized I was straddling him as if he just noticed his hands grip my hips holding me down. "Does this remind you of something?" He asked suggestively, and I gulped shoving those thoughts to the back of my mind. "No, now let go of me I have a funeral to finish" I grumbled and before I knew it he switched our positions, I was under him in an instant. "Is that how you apologize for running off? Or should I help you rekindle your memory?" He brushed my hair from my face, his fingers brushing my lips, I hated how my body reacted to his touch, I hated how my thighs clenched, and what I hated the most was that I wanted him to continue. "Stop this madness, we need to get back" I groused and he hummed his eyes on my lips. "What if I don't want to go back now? You left-" "I know. That was on me, I couldn't stay not after what happened" I look away unable to hold eye contact with him. His weight was off me and he stood up offering his hand for me to take but I rejected it when I saw the blood stain on his knuckles. We headed back to the funeral and finished it. I wasn't surprised that Jace returned. **** "When can I leave? I have work" I reminded Jace as we walked into the mansion. "Soon, for now your presence is needed here" He replied heading to his study. I stood in the middle of the living room as nostalgia washed over me. Everything about this house reminded me of the past and I hated it. I detest seeing tons of bikes parked outside. When I looked out the window, I loathed the smell of engine oil that lingered in the air. I abhorred the ghosts that haunt this house, all the people killed here, all the blood spilled on the rugs that were instantly cleaned by the maids. My father was ruthless and he wasn't above killing a man in front of his twelve-year-old daughter. That was the first day I saw a man dying, the blood pooling on the floor, and the empty gaze in his lifeless eyes. That haunted me and gave me nightmares, but I soon got used to it. I never accepted it as normal but I was born into this world. I avoided Zain and his stupid smug face, after what he did back there I know he's going to be a distraction again. Zain Holt has always been a distraction since the day I met him, he was this forbidden fruit for me, and the same for him but we always danced around the rules knowing what would happen if we crossed the line. I remember hesitating from my plans back then to run away because of him, I didn't want to leave but I knew I had to and Zain was already accustomed to this world, my father picked him off the streets and he is my brother's best friend, now his enforcer. If I want a normal life I can't get that with Zain Holt, no matter how bad I want him, there is no way it would work.
