Chapter 7

Clara's pov I thought I was dreaming at first, that would have explained the utter bullsh*t I just heard. "I didn't try to kidnap him! Your child refused to let go of my cart. Besides, you should have been more observant and not just let your kid wonder on his own." The angry look on Josh's face faltered for a second. He released me and walked over to Henry, trying to calm him down. A few seconds later, Lily joined them and said loudly enough for the crowd that had gathered to hear. "Oh my goddess, you found him!" Unknowingly to her, she had proved my point to the crowd and portrayed them as careless parents who couldn't even keep an eye on their own kid while they went out to shopping. I saw Josh nearly fade away from the shame. Looking at them, I thought I would feel something, but there was only numbness in my chest. I applied some force on the cart so that I could leave the place and maybe find madam Martha, but then Josh grabbed my cart. "Henry, told me that you are about to steal this, and he was only trying to stop you. Now I can't let you do that," he intensified his grip I tried to pull the cart away from him but he called out to an employee working at the supermarket, he told them to call security on me. “Let go of my cart, or security will be the one dragging you away.” Josh snorted when he heard that, "Just because you clean up nice for a homeless person doesn't mean that you will be able to deceive anyone here, there is no way that you can afford all these expensive products... You really have nice taste for a thief," My blood began to boil, but deep down, there was a strange sadness that penetrated me. Jace called me homeless, after he had taken everything from me, I provided everything he had including the house that they lived in. He thought I was so homeless that I was willing to steal to survive...how lowly did he think of me? After all the things I had to do, after all the sacrifices I've made for him and his pup, The only thanks I got, the only appreciation he thought i deserved was public humiliation. Just how far was he willing to go to prove that I meant little to nothing to him? I already understood after the first he threw me out . He can stop now. Why did he keep going further and further? Digging the knife deeper and deeper into my heart. Security showed up, it was a muscular man with a heavy mustache. Naturally, I thought he would be the only sane one that would listen to me, but Lily suddenly spoke up after being oddly quiet all this time. "Clara, don't be scared. Just admit what you did, and I'm sure that they'll let you off with a slap on the wrist..." She turned to the man; "please, could you at least let her go? She's homeless and doesn't even have a single penny on her... The only reason she did this was because she was desperate and had nobody in the entire world to rely on then–" "Could you shut up already?"I yelled at her, pushing past her and walking over to the security. "I'm not stealing any of these things here. I have every intention to pay for them," The security looked at me suspiciously then asked me to show proof that I planned to pay for the items, my face went pale, I remembered that Martha was the one with the money and I was the one pushing the cart. "Actually... I came with someone, she should be back soon..." The suspicion in the security guys eyes shot up; "If you can't provide any proof that you are going to pay for it, then you will have to return all those items back miss," I shook my head fervently, madam Martha had already put me through 3 hours of shopping meticulously picking out everything. If I decided to return everything now, she might get so upset with me that she'll convince Alpha Killian to fire me. So I held on to the cart like a lifeline; "Can we just wait for a little bit longer she'll be here soon," "Call her,"the security insisted openly, running out of patience. Once again, I found myself hitting a dead end; "I don't have a phone," Why was my life always like this. I don't think anyone has this much bad luck stored inside them like me. Maybe I have a way of attracting other people's bad luck just by interacting with them because why the heck was nothing ever working out for me. All I did was come to the supermarket for some easy shopping and now things have gotten this out of hand. I had lost everything after I was kicked out of my house and going through the baggages that was packed i discovered that every other thing was wrecked, there was no other choice than to trash them. And since I lived in the same house with all the people I interacted with, the need for a phone had not crossed my mind. "Ma'am you can either let go of the cart right now or else..." The security threat didn't seam empty to me, but this job I got as a maid was the only stability in my life right now. That little steamy encounter with my boss was one thing... But what if this was now the final straw? I remained firm, i told him that I wanted to wait for Madam Martha. Maybe I should have just given in and let go of the cart because Forty minutes later, I was behind bars. And still… no one came.
