Emily sat in stunned silence, her mind racing with the implications of the CEO's proposal. Marriage? To a man she barely knew? It seemed absurd, yet a part of her was tempted.
"What makes you think I'd be interested in such an arrangement?" she asked finally, trying to sound calm.
The CEO leaned back in his chair, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "I've done my research, Emily. I know you're struggling financially, and I'm willing to offer you a substantial sum of money in exchange for your... is cooperation."
Emily felt a surge of indignation. "Cooperation?" she repeated. "You mean, you want to buy me?"
The CEO's smile grew wider. "Let's just say, I'm willing to make it worth your while. You'll have access to all the luxuries you've ever dreamed of, and you'll never have to worry about money again."
Emily hesitated, torn between her pride and her desperation. She had been struggling to make ends meet since her father's passing, and the thought of financial security was tempting.
"What about... intimacy?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
The CEO's expression turned serious. "I'm not expecting a real marriage, Emily. This is a business arrangement, pure and simple. You'll be expected to accompany me to social events, and to play the role of my wife in public. But in private... we can come to some sort of arrangement."
Emily felt a shiver run down her spine. She wasn't sure if she was relieved or disappointed.
"I need time to think," she said finally, standing up.
The CEO nodded. "I expected as much. Take all the time you need, Emily. But let me make one thing clear: this is a limited-time offer. If you don't accept, I'll have to look elsewhere."
Emily felt a surge of pressure. She knew she had to make a decision quickly, or risk losing the opportunity forever.
As she left the office building, Emily couldn't shake off the feeling that she was making a deal with the devil. But she also knew that she had to be practical. She had bills to pay, and a future to secure.
Over the next few days, Emily found herself weighing the pros and cons of the CEO's proposal. She knew it wasn't a romantic marriage, but a business arrangement. And yet, a part of her was drawn to the idea of financial security, and the luxury that came with it.
Finally, after much deliberation, Emily made her decision. She would accept the CEO's proposal, and become his wife.
As she signed the contract, Emily felt a sense of trepidation. She knew she was taking a risk, but she also knew she had to be practical.
"What's your name?" she asked the CEO, as they exchanged rings in a quiet ceremony.
"My name is Alexander," he replied, his eyes glinting with amusement. "And you, my dear, are now Mrs. Alexander."
Emily felt a shiver run down her spine as she realized the enormity of what she had just done. She was now married to a man she barely knew, and she had no idea what the future held.
