2 Four Weeks Earlier

Okafu stared at her watch for the millionth time. Lina asked her to wait for her at the taxi stands, while she talked to their Chems 102 lecturer about her assignment marks. Lina hadn’t done well on the assignment. Okafu felt bad for her, even though she knew the reason why Lina failed. Okafu shook her head, smiling slightly. Lina was such a party girl, she didn’t care what time of day it was. If the mood struck, she was off. She lived for it, and  she’d tried to get Okafu to join her. But Okafu was too deep into her studying. She didn’t have time to play – her parents were relying on her to make something of herself.  She hoped she could convince Professor Martins to give her another chance to work on the assignment. but    Where was she? She turned to stare at the path that led to the University gates and she was nowhere to be seen. Even the students that sometimes loitered outside the gates where gone, having made their way home long ago. Which made sense, Okafu stared at the darkening. It gave slight rumble and spattering of rain fell down on her. Okafu shivered, taking a step into the overhang of the taxi stand. Dammit! She’ll be soaked by the time she got home at this rate, Okafu thought as the rain came down in buckets. Shit! It’s time to go. Okafu looked around hoping a taxi will come soon. But instead of a taxi. A sleek black Mercedes Benz came crawling to a stop right before her. As if it materialized out of nowhere. Okafu stared in awe as the back door opened. She gasped as the handsomest man she’s ever seen stared back at her with intense black eyes that seemed to scorch her with an invisible heat – she felt deep in her soul. A tingling sensation climbed up her spine…he looked familiar. But… Has she met him before? No. She wouldn’t forget a man like him. Okafu gulped feeling dizzy – fuckfuckfuckfuck…. He was…she couldn’t describe him. All she saw was dark chocolate skin, long limbs encased in a suit that moulded to his well-defined body. And big hands braced on his knees in a casual but alert pose. He looked like a fucken god or something. And then realization hit her…the man she was staring at was… Okafu swallowed as fear and excitement mingled in her stomach, causing butterflies to flutter against her skin. She breathed deep calming her nerves. Oh god…  She’d only seen him in magazines and on tv. Never this close with a cloud of rain between them. Where did he come from?  Okafu stared at him for a long minute before she realized he was speaking to her. “What?” “Want a ride?” he spoke and his voice was smooth like honey. And when he smiled, she could have sworn angels sang right above her head.  Crazy! Okafu turned back towards campus, wondering if anyone was bearing witness to this. She couldn’t see anyone. But even so, she couldn’t be seen talking to someone like Ren. He was… Okafu bit her lips as all the stories she’d heard about him ran through her mind. He was a dangerous man. She shook her head, no, and took a tentative step back. “Come on it’s just a simple, innocent ride,” he added. His smile broadened innocently. He had an amazing smile. His teeth were pearl white, dazzling.  Okafu shook her head again. Fuck, where is that taxi when you need one? She looked around her but there was nothing. The rain decided that very moment to add thunderbolts into the mix. One hit close to where she stood under the taxi stand. She flinched diving for the car. Ren quickly made room for her, leaving enough space between them. The door was slammed shut by someone, and the car started to move. Okafu’s heart hammered in her chest. And mind whirled in all directions. What the hell was she doing?
