“Your address is 313 Laburnum Avenue, correct?” I had asked the caller twice to confirm her address, but the woman was frantic and kept messing it up.
“Yes! Please, get a fire truck here as fast as you can. I’m across the street at my neighbor’s house. Smoke is billowing…”
“The fire department will be there as soon as possible.” I cut her off. “Now stay calm. Was there anyone else in your home that might be hurt? Should I send an EMT too?”
“No, praise Jesus.” The woman sighed.
