“This too!” I shout, slamming my fists on the table. “Then you don’t know the bad news yet,” Nick, my beta, mutters under his breath. “What!” I command. “He’s not alone. He has the mysterious queen with him.” I look at Nick in disbelief. Everyone has been talking about this queen for years, but no one has ever seen her. It would be something to do with her being too precious to him. Whether he, only has any feeling in that cold body of his. He is not only a strong werewolf, but also a mage.
After dinner, I move back to my office, where I go through all the papers that have not yet been completed. Until, at some point, I hear a knock on my door. “Come in,” I say as I see my sister peeking through the c***k of the door. As if she is afraid of what kind of mood I am in right now. “Alpha, they have arrived and would like to move into the pack house.”
Now I understand her anxious manner. I could already feel my blood boiling at the idea of that man having to stay here. He can’t be gone soon enough, but as Alpha, I have to greet my guests. So that’s what I do as I take my first step up the grand staircase toward the bottom, surprised to see a red figure standing there.
The color is so familiar to me, though I can’t do anything but stare as I continue down the stairs. Now that I am almost in front of them, I can see the velvet cape around her body and a bit of white hair, though she has covered her face for me. What kind of trick is this even? Why does she have to hide? “Greetings, king,” I say in a mutter as my sister Leonora takes over and leads them both to their rooms.
I smell her perfume as she walks by, with a hint of something that makes me think of something so much that I just can’t come up with right now. I continue to stare at her until they disappear down the hallway. “Have you seen her?” Asks Nick my beta next to me. “No, but I would do anything to be able to see her. I don’t know why, but her scent makes my wolf go nuts.” Nick looks at me shocked with panic in his eyes.
“Is she your soulmate? And now what?” Nick asks me, though I haven’t even realized this yet. This can only lead us to trouble.
What if I can’t stop my wolf anymore? What if I want to mark her? A bond between two soul mates is hard to ignore. It can even drive your wolf completely crazy until he himself takes the lead and does it anyway. “Let’s hope not. It would only make things harder because of it.” Nick nodded as we went for a walk together around our pack’s land. When we ran into a couple who also wondered about this woman, though I couldn’t tell much about her myself.
Because I don’t remember myself. Back in the warehouse, I let my wolf nose follow me until I reach my library. In my big room with all the books I’ve already collected in my life, I see her still standing in that red cape of hers, with her hand placed on a book. I come closer as I feel just the same as I had felt this afternoon. My wolf is now screaming inside me rock hard, “mate.” She turns around with the book in her hands, still, her head facing the ground. “Did you find what you were looking for,” I say in a raspy voice. She still continues to avoid my gaze when I see her nod.
What is this, she may not let her face and voice be heard, or seen. What kind of man is this Clay anyway? I’ve heard a lot of bad things about him, even growing up together in our youth, but never was he such a control freak as he is now.
Before I can say another word to her, I hear the door open again and see Clay come in with his stature. “Here you are, cup.” He commands her as she steps toward him in a slow stride. He apparently gets irritated with it, as I hear him sigh behind me. “Now Topaz!” Shouts as she walks past me and stands for a moment to catch our scent of each other like me.
The smells of wet grass after the drought and a spring breeze so fresh. I have to stop myself from taking her in my arms then and claiming her as my property. When they are out of the room, I can finally get back to thinking with a clear head. What am I doing? Comes to my mind. I am not looking for a Luna or a soulmate. I am looking for the Luna of eternal life. And that should be my only task as well. In a bad mood, I walk back to my desk, where my sister is already sitting over me.
Sure, Nick will have told her too. “Yes she’s my mate and no I’m not going to do anything with it,” I tell her, already immediately annoyed, not at all looking forward to this conversation. “No, Alpha, that’s not my question for you. I already know about your soul mate, of course, because of Nick. Though I think you should go for it and try to steal her from the king.” Has she gone crazy? My little sister who normally doesn’t look outside the box suddenly wants me to steal a woman from someone else. “I can’t do that, Leonora.
Then we will have to go to war, and you know we are not ready for that,” I tell her as I continue reading the paperwork in front of me. “Brother, now listen for once, this is your chance to be happy for the life you have left.” Indeed, for the life I still have and don’t want to lose to a Luna who is going to mean death to me. “No, I don’t want love, I want power.”
