‘Sure,’ says Madge, grinning at Johnny. ‘Why don’t give me a hand to make it?’
‘Okay,’ replies Johnny, getting to his feet and heading for the kitchen.
‘Jack seems to be making a real effort lately,’ says Mee, looking over at Ellie. ‘Fair play to him, he’s starting to show a lot of character. I hope he keeps it up.’
‘Oh, he will,’ replies Ellie. ‘Our life is changing for the better right now.’
Madge and Johnny soon return with the tea, which Johnny sets down on Madge’s coffee table.
‘Grab yourselves a mug,’ says Madge, looking at Ellie and Mee while nodding towards the tea tray, ‘because I’ve something to tell you guys as well.’
All three reach for a mug of tea each, and then they sit down again on Madge’s settee.
