Dreadful Lunch Encounter

638 Words
Dylan made his way down the everlasting stairs seemingly lost in thought. Since he had watched her form retreating this morning he repeatedly finds himself smiling without intending too and seems to suffer from some sort of heart burn that tingles directly into his very core. He rolled his eyes to these ridiculous thoughts and rather hoped he was experiencing the symptoms of cardiac arrest. He headed to his space of peace finding no interest in the ocean of eyes undressing him as he passed and cringed inwardly at the undisguised attempts to draw his attention. Still attempting to keep his facial features void of any display, attempting to seem unfazed and just in the nick of time he rounded the corner to his place of peace. He leaned forward placing his hands on his knees and exhaling fully as he mentally prepared himself for a few minutes of solitude in his place of peace. Reaching for the cigarettes and placing one firmly between both lips he recalls his lack of ignition the damn lighter. As his thoughts dart to the encounter this morning and then back to his current reality he once again notices that involuntary smile plastered on his face. Finding himself lurking in a daydream he was certain he had not created and embracing the smothering sense of contentment his hunt for an lighter seemed long forgotten. The elastic band of reality snapped harshly back into place, causing him to forrow his brows and with eyes void of emotion he stared at the owner of the clicking sound he required. As he focused on the features of the lighter owner he felt a sense of familiarity and as his brow eased he felt that stupid smile return to his features. Their gazes met, as he began to examine her he noticed she had been studying him with far less interest, she had her arm stretched towards him and in the palm of her delicate hand gently rest a sliver of hope. He lit his cigarette and unsure of the decent action to take he set his mind on overthinking an trivial topic. He returned her lighter and gently invaded her personal space. " Fancy meeting you here again. I had convinced myself I had scared you off?"- He had meant to say this in an light and conversational tone but questioned it when she gazed at him with an deep set frown over her forehead. "Scared me off? You think highly of yourself! Why would an man throwing a tantrum scare me off?"- She asked him with a flat voice and scanned his face. She turned her entire body to face his and grinned. He felt his cheeks and ears heat up and searched for any proof of reality. "Listen,Regarding my tantrum, I thought I should say that I'm sorry. oh and uhm thanks for being the light in my life!"- he chuckled at this own joke and faced her. The stopwatch of Life stopped for a brief second and his breathe caught in his throat. Staring back at him were the most mesmerizing blue green eyes, her skin was radiant with unpatterned scatters of light freckles, her lips seemed abnormally soft and her delicate features framed by bouncing long curls of pure gold. Unbeknownst to him it had only been the stopwatch of his Life that had briefly stopped and as his focus regain he once again found himself amused by her ability to define gravity as she floated away. He stood there smiling until he could no longer see her and then as summoned headed for his next class. As he approached the final step he chuckled to himself thinking of his ' dreadful lunch encounter' and argued that if he were to share his spot he couldn't imagine sharing it with anyone else.
