IT HAD BEEN ONE HELL OF A MORNING, and they were all feeling it. They heard the Honda swerve to a stop outside. Bryce Cameron had returned.
‘I better go,’ said G.
Queen wiped her tears and suspended her mourning. She made up her mind to batten down.
‘I’ll go with you. Time we get to the bottom of this.’
G smiled tightly and pulled her up.
‘Are you up to it? I don’t mind dealing with this by myself.’
In reply, she rested her face on his chest. It was comforting just to listen to his heartbeat.
‘I’m good.’
They came out of the bedroom just as Bryce Cameron was entering the house. Upon seeing Queen, he exhaled and shook his head.
G picked up the non-verbal cue, looked at his wife and asked a shade grim, ‘Do I wanna know?’
