*MARCELO* I was a light sleeper—the tiniest noise could wake me. I had barely shut my eyes that night when I was awakened by footsteps. I opened my eyes to see Renee heading for the bathroom. My eyes remained open until she came out. She seemed barely awake, and I was surprised when she slid into bed next to me. I sat up sharply as her scent enveloped me. She slept so soundly beside me, her peace seemingly unshakable. I scoffed. How could she sleep so peacefully while she was the one shattering my peace? Not fair.
