The location of the Brompton Post Office, in a small shopping centre across the road from the grounds of the Brompton Primary School, created a problem for Tim Wilde. Any surveillance unit he set up in the shopping centre's car park or across the road in front of the schoolyard would be obvious to anyone who noticed his surroundings.
After considering the options proposed by his team, Sergeant Wilde had a group of officers dressed as SA Power Network employees install a camera on the Stobie pole in front of the shopping centre and streamed its recordings to the surveillance team sitting in a van parked around the corner in Wattle Street.
A second team watched Knight's residence in nearby Coglin Street from cars that were parked in front of different houses each night.
