Our gaze locks for a moment. Silence stretches between us for what seems like eternity. Her questions hang in the air. “That's a ridiculous thing to ask,” I growl. I avert my gaze from her, I feel that she'll see the answers she's looking for in my eyes. Then I continue. “I married you because I love you. I really do.” She stands there just staring at me. Her eyes glistening in tears. I can see the doubts flickering in her gaze. I pull her to me with all the gentility I can give. “You still haven't answered my question,” she whispers, gazing into my eyes. I try to respond but the words are stuck in my throat, unable to speak. Further delay in telling her how much I love will count for suspicion and so, in a desperate attempt, I kiss her.
