My Dearest Mrs Darcy,
Your uncle Gardiner (our Uncle Gardiner?) dined with me here this evening. We had had further business to conduct, which was concluded satisfactorily on both sides, and I insisted that he stay. He asks me to extend his love and affection, and to tell you that, when you can, please to write his wife, your aunt. He tells me that the children are all yet full of excitement about our wedding, and wish to hear how you are — and Mrs Gardiner wishes to hear her own news, which Mr Gardiner and I agreed without saying anything was probably news that neither his children nor he should wish to hear.
Your letter did in fact find me with the evening post — exactly like a very loyal spaniel bringing the welcome p
