Emily
The moment Vivienne’s hand moved, survival instinct took over.
The words flew out before I could stop them.
“I…” I said quickly. “I was with Ethan.”
Vivienne froze.
Honestly, I froze too.
My heart began pounding immediately because Vivienne looked like she didn't believe me. The room went silent. Vivienne stared at me carefully, suspicion still sharp in her eyes.
“We went on a date,” I added quickly. “I just didn’t tell you because I wasn’t sure if you’d agree.”
For a second, she simply looked at me. Then confusion slowly replaced her anger.
“What?”
“I’m sorry, Mom.”
Vivienne shook her head immediately. “No,” she said. “I would never stop you from seeing Ethan. Never.”
Relief almost entered my body too early. Then she continued.
“But how do I know you’re telling the truth?”
I had no proof. No alibi.
“Give me your phone,” she said, stretching her gold stacked hand towards me.
My stomach dropped instantly. Because if Vivienne got that phone, my funeral preparations would begin immediately.
There were messages and search histories, enough material to get me publicly executed.
I forced out an awkward smile.
“The battery is dead. I didn't know it was low this morning.”
Vivienne looked at me the way teachers looked at students who thought they invented lying.
“Fine,” she said calmly. “I’ll call Ethan myself.”
Oh, f*****g no.
At that point, my brain completely abandoned thinking of anything to tell her. I was already calculating escape routes. Maybe I could jump through the kitchen window. Maybe fake a seizure. Or maybe run away permanently and become a forest witch.
Vivienne pulled out her phone and dialed before I could think of a better survival plan. Every ring nearly stopped my heart. Then Ethan answered.
“Ethan,” Vivienne said smoothly, “was Mary with you today?”
I held my breath.
This was it.
The end. My end. I would never fulfil my dream of attending Werewolf Academy because Ethan wasn't going to cover up for me.
Then Ethan spoke.
“Yes.”
My eyes widened instantly.
“She came over after school,” he continued calmly. “We needed to sort some things out.”
I almost collapsed from relief. Vivienne’s expression softened immediately.
“I’m glad to hear that,” she said warmly. “I was beginning to worry.”
She ended the call and looked back at me.
“You never have to apologize for seeing Ethan,” she said. “I’m happy the two of you are getting along again.”
I nodded quickly while my heartbeat slowly returned to normal. Then she smiled.
“And your date dress arrived.”
My stomach tightened all over again.
The weekend meeting with the Sparrows. The countdown was getting shorter. I had two more days. Two more days before I had to sit in front of the Luna wearing something expensive while pretending I belonged in their world.
“Thanks, Mom,” I said quietly.
I escaped upstairs before she could continue discussing my fake relationship. The moment I entered the room, I noticed the shopping bag immediately. Even from a distance, I recognized the logo.
Feraline
My steps slowed.
No effing way.
Who didn't know Feraline?
I had seen their dresses online before. Their gowns were the kind of thing normal people admired quietly from behind phone screens. The kind of brand I imagined maybe buying from once in my life. Maybe after graduating from the Academy. Maybe for my wedding. Or maybe after ten years of savings and financial suffering.
But right now, one of their bags sat casually in Mary’s room like it was a bag from a nearby store.
I walked toward it slowly, almost scared to touch it. Then I carefully pulled the dress out.
And Gods. The gown shimmered under the chandelier lights like water touched by moonlight. It was deep blue, soft and elegant. Even dangerous because it looked less like a dress and more like a weapon designed specifically for seduction.
I held it against myself and stared into the mirror.
That was when I understood exactly what Vivienne was doing. This wasn’t about romance. This was strategy.
I know now that Mary and Ethan weren’t mates. At least, for now because Mary’s wolf hadn’t even awakened yet. Vivienne was trying to secure the relationship before fate ruined her plans.
Because Ethan Sparrow was powerful, rich, untouchable, and the only son to the Alpha King. And Vivienne clearly intended to make sure her daughter stayed attached to him before the mate bond could interfere.
My eyes drifted back to the dress.
The back was cut dangerously low, stopping just above my waist. And the slit climbed scandalously high against the thigh while the front dipped enough to show my cleavage.
I stared at myself quietly.
Hopefully, I thought, I wouldn’t even be in this body by the weekend. Hopefully I would be home before then, back in my real room, back in my real body…back in my normal life.
Still…
Just trying it on wouldn’t hurt. Right?
So I changed carefully and stood in front of the mirror again. And for a moment, I genuinely forgot how to breathe. The dress transformed me completely.
Mary’s body suddenly looked unreal. Curves softened beneath the fabric while the blue shimmer made her skin glow warmly under the lights. Even without makeup, she looked beautiful.
I'm sure she was used to looking this enchanting. If I followed her on her socials, I would have definitely seen her rocking designers like this. But for me, this was an unforgettable experience.
My gaze drifted lower reluctantly.
Okay. Maybe Mary’s boobs were kind of impressive.
I folded my arms immediately, offended at myself for noticing. Still, I couldn’t waste this moment. So I grabbed Mary's phone and started taking pictures.
Maybe I would frame them someday. It would be proof that for one strange moment in life, I looked like this.
I was adjusting the angle of the camera when my phone vibrated suddenly. A message notification appeared. From Ethan. It had been sent thirty minutes ago.
My stomach tightened immediately as I opened it.
‘Where did you go? Your mom called asking about you. We need to talk right now. I’m on my way.’
Oh, s**t.
