Emily
Ethan Sparrow was downstairs. And somehow that felt more terrifying than failing chemistry.
I yanked the dress off so fast it nearly tore.
My brain was running in circles. What exactly was I supposed to tell him?
“Oh hey, Ethan, sorry I disappeared earlier, and lied that I was with you. I was secretly visiting Mary, whose body I stole after a cheerleading accident.”
Perfect.
Absolutely prison-worthy.
I rushed toward the wardrobe and immediately regretted every life decision that led me into Mary Saint Laurent’s room. And that decision was picking cheerleading over classic music as extracurricular just because I listened to a podcast that spoke about pushing walls of limitations.
Nothing in this room made sense.
Nothing.
Mary had a drawer for everything. I opened one drawer and found necklaces arranged like they were part of a museum exhibit. Another contained earrings. Another had bracelets sorted by color.
Then I opened one and froze.
Panties.
An entire drawer of panties.
Who needed this many panties?
I shut it aggressively and opened another.
Handkerchiefs.
Another. Scrunchies.
Another. Belts.
At this point, I was beginning to suspect Mary owned more accessories than the Luna. I hurried around the room half naked, trying to find something normal to wear while panicking internally.
The room was too big, too organized, yet incredibly difficult to find anything. I missed my chaotic pile of clothes at home where everything existed in one corner and choice depended on what was on the surface, or looked ridiculously irresistible even from beneath.
Downstairs, I suddenly heard Vivienne’s voice, sweet, warm, practically dripping honey.
“Ethan, darling…”
He was here already. My pulse jumped instantly. I finally grabbed a soft shirt and shorts before changing quickly. While pulling the shirt over my head, my brain started spiraling again.
Maybe I should confess. Maybe it was better to tell the truth before this got worse.
Then another thought followed immediately.
No. Absolutely not.
Nobody would believe I woke up in Mary’s body. They would assume I did some insane chemistry experiment and stole her life intentionally. And considering I was the top chemistry student in school, honestly? That sounded believable enough to land me in prison.
My mother couldn’t even afford proper groceries sometimes. There was no way she could afford bail money.
So, no. Confession was officially cancelled.
A knock sounded softly before the door opened. Ethan stepped inside.
And for a second, he looked way different from the Ethan I always saw in school. Maybe it was because he was casually dressed…or maybe it was my nerves.
I swallowed quickly and forced a smile. “Hey.”
His expression didn’t soften. Suddenly, he looked serious. My stomach tightened and I laughed awkwardly, trying to ease the tension.
“Well… this isn’t ominous at all,” I added after laughter didn't save me.
Still nothing.
Okay.
Panic rising now.
I sat carefully at the edge of the bed and tried again. “I’m sorry about earlier,” I said quickly. “I had to go see someone and Mom couldn’t know.”
Ethan walked further into the room slowly before sitting down. He still didn’t speak immediately. That silence was becoming very disturbing. This wasn't the Ethan I was used to.
“Don’t freak out,” I added nervously. “I can explain.”
Finally, he spoke. “Emily...”
My heartbeat stumbled. The way he said the name… Like he actually knew who I was. Which honestly still shocked me. Because in my head, Ethan Sparrow noticing someone like me, and remembering my name, felt impossible.
“That Omega, right?” he asked quietly.
Mentally, I rolled my eyes.
Yes, the Omega. The terrifying species known for existing and minding their business.
Out loud, I simply nodded. “She was helping me with chemistry.”
Ethan frowned immediately. That tiny expression somehow made my stomach twist harder.
“You’ve changed, Mary,” he said. “Everyone's saying it.”
Oh, no.
Not everyone.
I thought I was playing this “Mary” act so well.
“You’ve been acting strange since the fall,” he continued. “You avoid people now. You avoid me. And suddenly you’re asking an Omega for chemistry help?”
I forced myself to move closer to him because avoiding Ethan again would only make things worse. Even though every survival instinct inside me screamed not to.
So I sat beside him carefully, close enough to smell him. Which honestly should not have mattered. But it did.
God, it did.
His scent wrapped around me immediately. Warm cedarwood mixed with something sharper beneath it. You could even smell his wolf if you weren't his mate, and that scent up close was intoxicating. And suddenly I understood why girls lost common sense around Alpha wolves.
“I’m trying,” I said softly. “The fall messed with my head. Sometimes everything feels foggy.”
The moment I said it, his expression changed. Suspicion softened into concern. And somehow that felt worse because his brows creased slightly and he stretched his arms over my shoulder.
“Come here.”
Oh, no.
Before I could think of an excuse, Ethan shifted closer.
“I miss kissing you,” he murmured quietly.
Every intelligent thought vanished from my brain instantly as his face came up to mine, his handsome features glaring at me, and his eyes boring at mine intensely.
Was this actually happening?
My first kiss was about to be with Ethan Sparrow?
My bully?
The boy who once called my project “poor people science”?
I should have rejected him. I should have rolled away and told him my lips were sore or the pimple sat on my trigeminal nerve and affected my entire face.
But Ethan’s hand touched my jaw gently and suddenly I couldn’t think at all. Then he kissed me.
And for the love of the moon, nobody warned me kissing could feel like that. It wasn’t soft and awkward like the romance books described. It felt consuming. Like every nerve beneath my skin suddenly woke up at once.
My fingers tightened unconsciously against his shirt as heat rushed through my entire body. And horrifyingly enough, I kissed him back. Like my body completely forgot this was Ethan Sparrow. The Alpha wolf I hated.
His hand slid slowly against my waist, pulling me closer until I could barely breathe properly. The scent around him deepened, until he was more wolf than boy. Something inside him was reacting. I felt it, and somehow my body reacted too.
The kiss deepened before I could think properly and suddenly my back hit the mattress.
My eyes widened instantly.
Ethan leaned over me, one hand beside my head while the other remained against my waist. And that was when my brain returned.
Oh, my God.
I was a virgin.
A completely terrified virgin.
I rolled away from him so quickly I nearly fell off the bed. Breathing hard, I stared at him in complete panic.
How was I going to survive this?
