Chapter 2

Louis’s POV I looked up and tried to shake him off. His hands were already on me. “You weak little Omega. Showing off that body, then playing innocent. You come here in slut clothes and still want to claim you’re a virgin?” His breath was hot and wet against my skin. I smiled at him. “Touch me if you dare.” “Feisty. I like it.” He grabbed my waist and dragged me in. Still staggering. Face buried in my neck, trying to scent me. I took his head in both hands and slammed it into the brick. Crack. He clutched his skull and lunged. I grabbed a bottle and smashed it into his eye. “Stupid Omega, I’ll teach you how to—” Slam. “You don’t touch me.” Slam. “Like that.” My voice stayed sweet. I drove his head into the wall until his legs gave out and he slid down, blood running over his face. I dragged my fingers through it. Smeared it like lipstick. “Time for a retouch.” I stepped on him on the way back inside. Jake’s grip tightened on his cup. “What the hell did you do now?” “Relax. I didn’t kill him. He tried it.” Jade shrugged. “Then he deserved it. We’re partying. Nobody bothers us.” I chugged what was left in my glass. “What about the car? How are we getting home?” “Friend of mine,” Jake slurred. “Said I could borrow his.” This was going to be a long night. --- Leo’s POV Sometimes I wondered why they made me Alpha of these people. I lost my parents young. Cecilia was all I had left. Suck it up. I raked a hand through my hair. “You have to be here,” Blaine said, shaking my shoulder. “Physically and emotionally.” He’d been in my ear since we were kids. Still was. Bang. Bang. Bang. “Brother!” I opened my arms. She ran straight into them. My sister. The only good thing in this house. She blushed and swatted my chest. Blaine cleared his throat. “Should I leave you two alone?” “You want a hug too?” “I’ve had plenty.” He grinned. I glared. He giggled anyway. “I’m going to that party tonight,” Cecilia said, soft. “I won’t be home. Don’t miss me too much.” “Party?” I’d already asked. I asked again. “Why can’t you stay here and let me protect you?” She narrowed her eyes. I folded. “Fine. Go. Pack first.” She was already running upstairs. I sat. Rubbed my neck. Unease sat there like a nail. Like I needed to do something before I paid for not doing it. I stared at the papers on my desk like they might finish themselves. I groaned and pressed the heels of my hands into my eyes. I just wanted to sleep. Then she was back, spinning in the doorway. “How do I look?” Blonde hair. Our mother’s. Blue eyes. Our father’s. She looked so much like them it almost put me on the floor. “Be careful. Stay out of trouble. I’ll come if you need me. Just—be okay.” I was still talking when I walked her to the door. She held my face and kissed my cheek. “I’ll come back early so you don’t worry.” Then she was in the car and gone. The feeling came back. I grabbed my jacket and stepped out for a smoke. Blaine blocked me. “You’re not thinking of leaving me with all this, are you? I’ve got a family picnic next weekend and work that isn’t done.” I shrugged and tried to sidestep him. He caught my arm. “You didn’t even ask why.” “Because one stubborn Alpha decided he could sit on his ass while I worked mine off. And now you want a cigarette.” He didn’t let go. “You mocking me because I don’t have a mate?” I pulled a face. “Me? Mock my handsome Alpha? Never.” We both laughed. It didn’t last. “I don’t know when I’ll find them,” I said. “It’s eating at me. This pack needs a Luna. I need my other half.” “Moon Goddess will send them. Soon.” I didn’t know how soon. Or that it would cost me my mind. Ring. Ring. Ring. Unknown number. I almost silenced it. I almost let it die. Blaine leaned in to light his cigarette. “Who is it?” “Scam, probably.” It kept ringing. I answered ready to snap. “Your sister is in the hospital. She’s in critical condition.” The phone slipped. My knees went. “Cecilia.” ---
