Leo’s POV
“Did you see his face?” I paced. A vein jumped in my neck. “Nothing touches him.”
“Then don’t break him all at once,” Blaine said. “Someone like that? You do it in pieces.”
I laughed. It didn’t sound like me.
“The Moon Goddess has 5a sense of humor. I looked for a mate. I found the one person I want in the ground. The bond still aches. That’s the joke.”
Blaine stared. “So he’s our Luna.”
“He’s the psychopath Luna. Yes.”
I wanted him hurting. I couldn’t stand the sound he made when he did. That was the other joke.
Every time I shut my eyes I saw Cecilia’s face in blood and him walking back to the car. No shock. No guilt. That’s what I was going to fix.
“Bring the friends,” I said.
Blaine was already dialing.
“They all bleed for it.”
I sat until a guard bowed in the doorway.
“They’re here, Alpha.”
Basement.
Three chairs. Three stares.
“Why are you tied up?” Jade asked. Soft face. Stupid question.
“Cosplay,” Louis said. “I was playing the criminal. Crazy, right?”
Jade blinked. “You were in cosplay.”
“So what the f**k are we doing here?” Jake.
“Unlawful invitation,” Louis said, dead. “You’re welcome.”
“I didn’t ask to be invited. I still have last night in my skull.” Jade.
Louis smiled at them, then at me. “That man who looks like he wants our heads? That’s my mate.”
“Mate?”
Both heads snapped so hard the chains sang.
“You’re mated and you didn’t say?” Jake fought the chair. “You motherfucker.”
“You haven’t asked why you’re here.”
Silence.
“The girl,” Louis said. “Yesterday. His sister.”
Jade went pale. “You hit your mate’s sister.”
“We. We hit her. Stop handing me the whole crime.”
Jake whispered, “He kidnapped you because you were driving.”
“Oh, I should be the only one in a chair? You got out of the car. Partner.”
I clapped.
They looked at me like they’d forgotten I had ears.
“I have a game. You’re going to love it.”
They went quiet. Looked at each other. Looked away.
I nodded. A guard threw the switch.
Pain kicked down the bond so hard my own knees wanted to go. Louis jerked. The other two broke first — noise, please, sorry.
Louis locked his face down. If the bond hadn’t flared, I might’ve believed he liked it.
We ran it until they were grey and shining with sweat.
I watched him drag air back into his lungs. That part I liked.
They slumped.
Louis grinned through it. “That’s the show? Sparks? Child’s toy. Bring the real thing.”
“Shut up,” Jake rasped. “It’s killing me even if it isn’t killing you.”
Jade coughed. “Leave him. He’s done worse to other people. This is nothing.”
“Again when they can breathe,” I said, and left them there.
Lucas met me on the stairs.
*Stop. That’s our mate.*
“I don’t have a mate.”
*You don’t do that to—*
“You’re the one with a mate. Mine died on that road with my sister. He ran her down and left her. You want him as Luna? For my people?”
Lucas had nothing.
Ping.
**Your sister is awake.**

Unknown
White coats. Clipboards. Chests going up and down — the only proof the bodies were still in the game.
My subjects. I smiled.
The phone.
I fixed my face before I answered.
“Kade.”
Static. Soft breathing.
“How is the test?”
“It’s going. But—”
“But.” The word had teeth.
“The rest keep dying. They’re not built for it.”
“So what I sent you were defects.”
“That’s not what I—” Sweat on my hand. I wiped it on my coat.
“Then who is.”
A face. Easy. My mouth moved before I thought.
“Louis.”
Beep.
