The Way Forward

1569 Words

Elijah POV Our trip home was not untouched by misfortune. We were almost run off the road by a big, lifted F150, whose driver had some serious road rage. It began to snow later in the evening, and since we’d decided to push through, driving at night with the goal of arriving at home sometime around 2 in the morning, I missed a patch of ice and skidded off into the ditch. Luckily, we were on a smaller side-road, and were able to pull back onto the road. I’d popped a tire, but was able to replace it with the spare. We arrived home at 3am instead, and Ambrosia would not allow me to convince her to stay with me: I had to drop her off at her mailbox. She wouldn’t even let me walk her to the door. I couldn’t even be sure of what exactly had upset her. Was it Alpha Aurielle’s cryptic warning?
