Elijah POV
I called Phlox after business hours. Ambrosia had seemed pretty on the fence about reaching out to her stepmother but agreed to share the list of contacts she’d received with me. I was honestly just happy to hear she hadn’t thrown the list out the minute she got home.
The phone rang only twice before he answered with a hesitant, “Hello?”
In the background, I could hear a child loudly asking her mother questions and the clanking of kitchenware. “Hope I didn’t catch you at a bad time,” I said, awkwardly.
