When Victor returned to the villa, 7 days had already passed.
He took off his coat and tossed it to a servant, then called toward the living room.
"Adele, have you had enough of this tantrum? If you've thought it through, come out and talk."
His voice echoed through the villa.
No one answered.
The servant answered in a trembling voice. "Miss Harper left 4 days ago."
Victor raised an eyebrow. The answer didn't seem to surprise him much.
He knew Adele too well. She was stubborn and proud.
He had deliberately exposed his affair on the day of the proposal because he wanted to break some of Adele's pride.
As the future matriarch of the Atwell family, she would have to accept the fact that her husband would have mistresses. She couldn't keep being this stubborn.
He gave a low scoff, took out his phone, and dialed Diana's number. His fingers skimmed the screen carelessly.
30 minutes later, a red Ferrari stopped at the villa gate. Young, pretty Diana lifted her skirt and ran inside, throwing herself straight into Victor's arms.
For the next full month, Diana moved into the master bedroom, and Victor tangled with her in every corner of the villa.
Her young body was soft and sweet, but the novelty faded faster than he had expected.
Soon, Victor began to feel bored.
He started waking up frequently in the middle of the night. Each time he opened his eyes, irritation filled his chest—and he had no idea why.
Then, after one dinner party, Victor returned to the villa drunk.
The familiar warm yellow light by the entrance lit the path. A delicate figure rushed into his arms.
By instinct, he held her tightly and blurted out, "Adele!"
The woman in his arms looked up in annoyance.
"I'm Diana! You still can't forget that woman?"
Victor snapped back to himself. Only then did he belatedly realize that Adele had been gone for a full month.
That realization suddenly hollowed out his chest, as if something important had been torn away.
He pushed Diana away, took a cigar from his pocket, and clicked the lighter over and over. Several times, the flame failed to catch.
Diana clung to his arm and whined, her eyes full of pain.
"I hate it when you're cold to me. Lately, you barely even touch me. Are you tired of me?"
Victor narrowed his eyes and stared at the warm yellow light above him. He thought of the first year after he and Adele moved into this villa.
Back then, the Atwell family's power was still expanding. He often came home late at night, carrying the smell of gunpowder and blood.
No matter how late it was, the light at the villa entrance was always on. Adele would wrap herself in a soft blanket and sit quietly in the foyer, waiting for him.
Whenever she saw him come home, she would rise at once and give him a warm, tight hug, smiling at him as if he were the only one in the world who mattered.
Now, the light was still on.
But the woman was gone.
Victor closed his eyes and spoke flatly, "Yes. I'm tired of you."
Diana's face turned deathly pale. She stared at him in disbelief.
"W-what did you say?"
He didn't answer her. He only ordered the butler to send Diana away.
Diana was dragged into the car, tears streaming down her face as she broke down and shouted after him.
Victor ignored her. He turned around, dropped heavily onto the sofa, and pulled up the familiar number on his phone.
But when he called, the number was no longer in service.
His heartbeat suddenly skipped.
A panic he had never felt before surged through him.
