Axel POV
Knock knock knock
I sat up in my bed, half asleep still. I looked over at the clock on my side table, 4:55 AM. Almost time for training, so I might as well get up.
Knock knock knock
I swung my legs over the side of the bed and got up to walk to the door. I opened it to find Dimitri.
“Good morning, Alpha. Sorry to be here so early, but I figured you wanted the information regarding your mate as soon as possible,” he says while handing me some papers.
“Of course. Thanks, Dimitri.” I began to glance over the papers and closed the door. Isabella K. St. Claire is my mates full name. I wonder if there is any correlation with Alpha Robert St. Claire? Probably not, I would have smelled her wolf. Even if he had mated with an omega, she’d still have a wolf from the strong alpha blood.
My mate is just as impressive on paper as she is in person. She’s about to graduate a year early with a 4.0 GPA, works a full time job, volunteers for multiple entities, and is involved in extracurriculars. She may not have been raised in a pack, but I have no doubt she’ll be an amazing Luna.
Good news, her address isn’t too far. I wish I could go now, but I don’t think she’d be happy with her one night stand showing up at her house before dawn. I’ll get through training and breakfast then go bring my Luna home.
Today’s training seemed to take forever. I pushed through as fast as I could, but it didn’t seem to make a difference. As soon as it was done, I rushed to my room to shower and change. Then I quickly ate breakfast and headed out to my Isabella’s house.
Forty-five long minutes later, I’m pulling up to a light blue and white house with 2 cars parked out front. Hopefully one of them is hers. I walked up to the front door with a bouquet of pink and white roses and rang the doorbell.
Finally, I heard the knob turning from the other side. I stood there waiting for her delicious honey vanilla scent to infiltrate my nose, but it never came. As my heartbeat quickened, I’m met with a pair of grey blue eyes instead of the beautiful hazel ones I was expecting. A woman with dirty blonde hair and a few inches shorter than my mate stood at the doorway with her hands on her hips.
“Can I help you?” She asked, I recognized this woman as the one dancing with Isabella when I met her.
“Hi, is Isabella here?” I asked.
She narrowed her eyes at me, “No, she’s not.” My mate’s delicious scent was faint in the house, so I knew she wasn’t lying. She continued,”You’re the guy from Saturday night, aren’t you?”
“Yes, I am. Do you know where I can find her?”
“No.”
“Excuse me?” Aztec starts growling in the back of my mind.
This human is trying to keep us from mate!
Why would she do that?
“I said no. Although I’m not surprised an Alpha has the resources to track her down, but to just show up at her house like this?” She sneered at me. I was taken aback about the fact she knew what I am. How? She must be a part of our supernatural world as well then.
“What are you then?” I return the glare and realize I can’t get a scent from her. She must be the reason why my mate's scent disappeared that night.
“It doesn’t matter. You need to leave and never come back here. She doesn’t need you messing up everything!”
“She’s my mate. And she should be the one making the decision whether she wants me or not, witch!”
She looked at me with wide eyes. It wasn’t hard to figure out what she is, only a witch could use a spell or potion to not have a scent to give off. Besides, even humans have certain scents while this one had none at all.
She stepped out of the doorway and stood inches from me while pointing her finger at me,” Listen here, you don’t know a thing about her. She doesn’t need some Alpha bonehead werewolf claiming her as some kind of prize to stroke his big ego. Now you need to leave and never come back or you’ll regret it.” She quickly turned on her heel and stormed back into the house, slamming the door in my face.
I stood there, seething with anger.
HOW DARE SHE TRY TO KEEP US FROM MATE!
Aztec was furious, and so was I. I could feel him trying to push through to rip that b***h a new one. I was going to come back for my mate whether that witch liked it or not.
Not being able to contain my anger, I ran towards the back of the house and shifted into Aztec. We would come back in a little while to see if my beautiful mate would return home, but had to run this anger off in the meanwhile.
Aztec sprinted us off into the forest behind the house, in the direction of our territory. What did the witch mean when she said I would mess up everything? She’s already about to graduate, so I don’t see how I could mess that up. I wonder if Isabella knows her friend is a witch? Why would she be trying to keep us from each other? Not having any answers to these many questions was making me uneasy.
I was almost to the territory when I smelled the faintest of the sweetest scent. In wolf form, the senses are so much more heightened.
Axel, mate is nearby! I need to find her!
Aztec is frantically scenting every direction to see which way our mate is. He finally catches it and sprints in its direction. Aztec howls in excitement. We stumble across a road that passes through the forest when I lock gazes with my mate in the driver's seat. She suddenly realizes how close she’s getting to me when she swerved off the road and into a tree.
ISABELLA!!
Oh Goddess, please let her be okay! I ran over to aid her while shifting back. I walk up to the smoking car and find my beautiful mate unconscious and bleeding. I ripped her seatbelt off and lifted her out of the car and then ran as fast as I could to the pack hospital.
Thankfully we weren’t too far from the border of my territory. I mindlinked Sam, who was the captain of the eastern border, that I was coming through on foot so they would let me pass through without any questions.
Finally I arrived at the pack hospital, I walked into the lobby and am happy to see it’s not busy. I see Dr. Grey is standing behind the desk when she suddenly looks up from her paperwork,” Alpha, what happened to her?” She asked as she rushed over to examine Isabella. She shouted to no one in particular to bring a gurney.
“She was in a car accident. She drove into a tree.” I quickly told her. A couple of nurses made their way over with a gurney and I laid her in it.
“Wait here, Alpha. As soon as I know what is going on, I’ll come give you an update, okay?” I nodded in reply to her. I know she’s strong, she’ll be okay.
About 30 minutes later, I saw Dr. Grey making her way towards me in the waiting area. I quickly stand up and meet her halfway.
“Alpha, she is okay. Luckily she’s suffering from no more than a concussion. She’s stable and resting, depending on the severity though will determine when she’ll wake up.”
“Thank you, Dr. Grey. Can I see her?”
“Of course, right this way.”
I followed her down to the end of the hallway. Upon entering the room, my eyes fell on her beautiful resting face with her honey brown hair fanned out around her. She looked like a goddess.
I walked around her bed and sat in a chair at her bedside. I sat there and held her hand, waiting for her eyes to open.
